Manix 2 154CM Impressions

First, the one-hand closing issue: it can be unlocked with one hand, but with one finger on each side of the lock. 90% of my BMs cannot be unlocked with one finger, the play in the Axis bar does not allow it to travel straight when pushed from one side (the best: 707, 960 & 520, the worst 710 & 806).
Second, the grind: I really prefer a FFG but I would never send a 70$ knife to anyone for a re-grind, especially when a FFG version is around the corner. And, objectively, it cuts very well like that.
Third, the lanyard hole: I do not use lanyards so I would have gladly done without one and have a screwed-on spacer instead. Regardless of my personal dislike of lanyards, I do not know why it needed to be so big...
Finally, the blade finish: I cannot recall any other Spyderco with the same stonewash finish, and I love it! I now prefer it to the usual satin finish.

I was quite disappointed when the Manix 2 was introduced, I felt it betrayed some of the original Manix's main traits. However, I am now convinced this is a much better knife to use, mostly because of the lock, the bigger washers and the blade finish. And its price is just unbeatable. Thanks, Eric.

I also have the P'Kal folder and the spring is much easier to pull back- it can be done with just the thumb.

That's interesting. It says to me that the springs in the Manix 2 could very possibly be less strong and still extremely safe. The CBL solves some of the Axis issues but introduces others. I'd like to see it developed/perfected further.

Held one at a gun show today!! Feels AWESOME! Grip is great, lock was plenty easy to close with 2 fingers of one hand. Would prefer the blade to be a bit longer, but I really liked it.

Well after carrying this knife for most of the Thanksgiving weekend ( I let my 10 month old pick what knife daddy carries for the day...he picked the BM 970 yesterday), I find that I like the knife for the most part. My only 2 real gripes are: I prefer tip down, its just what I have always used since I got into OH folders about 10 years ago, and this knife is wide when closed. By wide, I mean from the spine to the back of the handle when closed. It moves the pocket clip further to the middle of my pocket, and I like for it to go as close to the seam as possible. Other than that, I find it very capable. OH closing is kind of difficult, but its not a deal breaker.
