Manix 2 Blade Play: Common?

Hello, I was looking to find out some information, and maybe share some experiences. Any help would be appreciated.

I received two Orange Sprint Manix 2's just a little while ago, and I noticed that they both had pretty obvious side-to-side blade play. It's not a big deal, but in the short time I've been carrying one of them, it's loosened up even further. If it keeps that up, it's going to get kind of troublesome. I can't do anything about it (vis a vis tightening it) due to the nature of the pivot design. :(

Is this normal for this sprint run? I read at least one other user saying they were having a similar problem with theirs, but have any other folks experienced this issue? Is this somewhat common with this particular run?

I've gone back to carrying my regular production Manix 2 (which I haven't had an issue with) because, while the blade play in the Orange one doesn't seem to affect the knife's function, it's getting a bit annoying. Thanks in advance for any opinions and advice.

Wait, tightening the pivot doesn't decrease side to side play? You should be able to tighten it all the way and the blade still have free motion due to the pivot bushing.

A bit of side to side movement is normal in my experience, but excessive play should not be there. I assume you've tried tightening the screws? Although it may not tighten things beyond the factory specs, it still can come loose. You're saying it's getting worse so there has to be something that changed from when it was brand new.

Good luck.

Edit: "A bit" is relative, but let's just say that it's more than a Sebenza and less than a FRN handled knife. My Sage 1 has about the same amount of looseness compared to the Manix 2.

I have tightened the screws down all the way, but it hasn't helped. I can't tighten the pivot or body screws any more without risking stripping them.

If it was mine, I would send it in. But if that didn't work out, then I would resort to grinding the sleeve bearing (or whatever it's called) step. It would have to be pretty dramatic since I hate trying to get the lanyard pipe to fit again.

Warranty or not, I won't use a knife I'm not happy with so it's worth the risk to me.

Both my pink and orange M2's have a miniscule amount of side to side. My regular black M2 has zero play. Weird...

I've got 4 of those Manix 2. None have had blade play when I got 'em. And even though I've used a couple quite extensively, the pivot does not seem to loosen up.
Good luck!

2 per side for a total of 4, at least on my Sprint CTS-XHP Manix 2.

Edit - I think I'm actually looking at the reflection off the liner. I looks like 1 per side. Sorry for the confusion.

I've got half a dozen of these in various flavors. All have 1 washer/side and none have side play, locked open or closed, fwiw.

I haven't read the other posts yet but my first suspect would be that you are missing a washer or 'washers' leading to the play. I'd check that first anyway. Well, for lateral blade play. For vertical thats a whole nother story.

So, are there supposed to be two washers per side on all Manix 2's? If so, that would probably explain the blade play. Thanks for the info and opinions, everyone.

I don't think so. I made a mistake while looking. There were reflections in the liner that made it appear that there were two per side. In reality, it's 1 per side.
