Manix 2 CPM S110V 1st Impressions

Great review! I started checking these forums again after I bought my first Spyderco in a couple of years (SE H1 Dragonfly, which is a pint sized BEAST) and have been using it hard. I even sold off some of my sprint runs since I was afraid to really use them hard and figured someone else might get more use out of them than me.

Curse you bladeforums! I ordered an S110V Manix 2 yesterday after reading some of these threads and can't wait to get it. It sounds really impressive, and for some reason I've been preferring the FRN over the G10 Spydies now. Can't wait to get it and see what it can do.

Expensive hanging around BF, isn't it? :-)

I don't think you'll be disappointed, mine is amazing.

What grit did you start with on the reprofile? I am assuming you used the EP. I got mine yesterday, and the S110V Manix (once it dulls enough) is going to be re-profiled.

320 grit Congress Moldmaster SIC.

I found the 220 EP does not cut very fast, I never use it. I much prefer the 120 EP, its a SiC stone and is much more effective on the high carbide steels.

I usually do 120, 320, 600, SM brown micro bevel.

Thanks Ankerson for the test. I have been looking forward to your review. I plan to make this my new backpacking/camp blade. I can't wait to get mine back from Spyderco. Unfortunatly mine went right back for W&R. Not really a big deal, guess I just need to learn patience.

The bevels shouldn't be that far off, they were pretty close to 15 DPS already so it shouldn't take all that much to do it. :)

Normally I like to reprofile lower than 15 dps, like 12, and then run a 15 dps micro.

The Manix 2 is pretty thick behind the edge at around .030" so the bevel would be rather large below 15 DPS.

Like some senor who tried to pry firewood apart, and broke the blade through the thickest part of the tang...:D

Yes, that little stunt did not help our cause...;)

I have broken enough folders over the years myself, it's not really all that easy. :D

He had to really be yanking on it hard....

are these in stock anywhere?

Every day I check the 7 internet sellers that I hear mentioned on the forums and have not found any in stock maybe in weeks. When the knives first came out I wasn't checking every day but there was only one time that I did find them in stock anywhere. They were supposed to be a production item and this was a seller that I had not heard of before so I passed, hoping my favorite seller would get them in stock, but they haven't yet. Since then I've started checking every day.

Weekdays I can't normally get on the internet except at night. I've heard of several instances where a retailer would get a few in stock in the morning, and in a few minutes they would be sold out. When I check at night they are long gone. I've also heard that some retailers announce on places like facebook that they have knives in stock. I'm not on facebook so I haven't seen this firsthand.

I suppose if a person has the free time during the day they could check several times during the day, check to see what retailers are on facebook, etc. I've tried contacting some retailers and I was told that they are only doing preorders. Maybe if you were shameless and called all of the retailers you could get some information on when is the best time to check stock and when they expected to receive some stock.

If you don't mind paying scammer prices there are some available through online auctions.
