Posted a brief walk-around of my Manix 2. If any one is interested, check it out http://tiny.cc/WJtvG .

(Ugh. The video quality really degraded in the post-processing. I can see where a camera that records in a better native resolution would be advantageous.)

:)

I thought the video quality was pretty good. Thanks for the initial impressions.

I must say, this is a well done Video
No hype, with a clear concise description of the knife, with an intelligent use of the English language. A rarity these days :p

Video quality is fine, and great review. I really appreciate being able to see a knife in the hand and in motion

I gotta say, I love the look of it, and the stiffness of the ball lock for me is a +. I'll be picking one up very soon. :D

Thanks for the video review. The issue with the lock is something I'd consider a positive quality, as it would seem any accidental closings(had one with an Axis lock a few years back) are likely to be greatly reduced. I've pre-ordered one from my Canadian dealer, Warriors and Wonders, and I can't wait for it to arrive:thumbup:

Nice review!
Agree that the lock is more difficult to operate than an Axis, but as mentioned byflipe8, the Axis can be too easy to disengage. Fun to play with yes, but potentially an issue. That being said, I hope mine breaks in a little, ending up between the way it is now and the Axis.

I thought your video review was excellent! In fact, it sold me on a Manix 2 (just what I needed, yet another Spyderco), and it's YOUR fault!;)

Good job, sir!

Wow, thanks for the encouraging comments. I'm glad to share.

Maybe I'll do some more. Was kind of fun to do, though I'm still learning the whole video processing thing.

The ball lock on both my P'kal and P'kal-T, after having had them about... oh... 8 months with occasional use, work flawlessly now. Not quite as smooth as Axis, but fairly easy to disengage with just the thumb, though flipping in and out I find more secure with thumb-forefinger. I believe you have it right as to why it might be harder to use than the Axis, also, it is at an angle, whereas the path along which the Axis lock-bar travels is parallel to the long axis (hence the name?) of the knife handle.

Definitely looking forward to picking one of these up sometime.
Thanks for the excellent, straight-forward and fairly comprehensive review. I definitely like the look of the jimping :D.

Great review, I agree with what everyone else has said about the clarity of your review.
Just got my SE Manix 2 today, and same thing--I can't do the caged ball lock one handed either. That said, it doesn't matter to me at all. This certainly is a rock solid folding knife, an instant favorite which I highly recommend.

My Manix 2 arrived last night, and I have to say I'm disappointed.

I'm disappointed because the knife caused me to lose the challenge of carrying only my small Sebenza for a year. I lasted 7 months with my small Sebbie, and the Manix 2 kicked it out of my pocket. :D

Anybody who complained about the loss of the old Manix models is going to eat crow when they handle this new one. Everything there was to love about the old Manix is still there (except the gonzo size of the large model)- and more. The new lock is ridiculously rock-solid. The ergos are great. The review in the OP was correct in that the lock can't be disengaged with just your thumb. You just have shift your grip and pinch the lock's cage with your thumb and index finger. Not a big deal. A small price to pay for a folder that can probably do almost anything a fixed blade can do. My one complaint, design wise, is that there is a whole lotta jimping going on with this knife. There are 3 different jimping types on the knife- liberally applied. They feel great, and probably contribute to the function. But they look a bit fussy. They make the knife look a bit more aggressive than I like. But I'm sure they'll grow on me. The jimping helps "lock" the knife into the hand. I don't see the thing slipping, ever, no matter what grip it's in. Wet, slimy, whatever. You're not gonna drop the thing unless you want to. The grip is quite amazing in that even though it has distinctive finger grooves, it feels perfect in several different grips. The only grip that feels a little bit awkward is Pikal- but this knife isn't designed for that.

Overall, the new Manix is one heck of a knife in terms of value, design, quality of construction, materials, and fit & finish. Very cool.

You had me scarred  for a moment. Sure am glad it's a keeper, mine should be in the mail Thursday.
