Got my Manix 2 today :D

I think it's my favorite spyderco to date, which was up until today the Para. Handle ergo's are fantastic, like the original. Jimping is not sharp and is a non issue if you are concerned about it being uncomfortable. It's a significantly heavier than the Para, the liners are not skeletonized and the backspacer is metal. Also the blade carries much more thickness towards the tip than the Para due to the sabre grind. Machining of the G-10 to fit the liners is as good as any production knife I has seen. Right up there with MicroTech's LCC with no overhang or underhang anywhere around the perimeter. I'm blown away by the fit of the liners to the scales actually, it's something I havene't seen the likes of on a production knife priced under $100 ever (Street Price).

Plusses for me are the huge lanyard hole, way high clip mount, and super smooth action. If you release the lock with the knife held out straight and hold the lock the blade drops and swings back and forth 8-10 times before it comes to a stop pointing down. Even smoother out of the box than any Axis Lock I have used. Also this Manix has a STRONG detent... Brilliant!

It's a winner, and for $80 shipped a no brainer for any Spyderco fan... IMO...

I can't wait to handle mine. It should be here in a matter of days. Thanks for the appetizer!

I saw a post (somewhere) where Sal stated that the Manix 2s will be available in a variety of blade grinds & steels soon. Has anyone seen any specifics on this? I for one would LOVE to see what would be an odd-ball blade -- CPM 3V, full-flad grind. Otherwise, CPM 110v would be great! This tank virtualy screams for a sprint run with one of these ultra high tough/wear-resistant steels.

Should be a S90V, full flat grind in the pipeline ;)

Well thats what Sal had said at blade :)

OP, where did you get it for 80 bucks shipped? I am contemplating purchasing one as a reward for doing well on the GRE (after I take it in a month). Also, did the use counter sunk torx screws like the pilot runs? I ran across a pic of a Manix 2 that had rounded philips head screws yesterday (possibly a fake).

How sharp was it out of the box?

Oh yea...post some pics. I know we've seen it before, but there can never be too many pics.

Got mine from Fenix Outfitters. Was actually $82 shipped.

Scale and pivot screws are counter sunk torx, clip screws torx button head. Looks like all are T-8 with T-10 for the pivot. (No T-6's anywhere on this bad boy, which is another plus!)

Honestly, sharpness is not up to spyderco standards. Was a little disappointed there but can fix myself. Also blade grinds are somewhat uneven, and whoever sharpened it bore down on the left side and lightly touched the right on the belt sander, so the edge bevels are also fairly uneven. The tip actually looks like it was chisel sharpened!

But for about $80 it's a serious win for spyderco, IMO.

Did I mention that it has the huge thumbhole like the Para and Mili? This knife is a serious user and I doubt anyone will be disappointed all things considered...

I had a 0350 and sold it in 24 hours. IMO this knife is way better executed than the 0350.

Even if they were the same price it would be no contest in my mind, but considering the price difference the Manix is surely the winner!

I was actually just comparing this Manix with my 0200, which I think it's more in line with than it is with the 0350.

just ordered one up as well.... could be here Saturday :) Been looking forward to this one.

Interesting. I was wondering about that too . . .

It looks like it could give the ZT 0350 a run for it's money.

Oooh. Good comparison! The Manix 2 is more knife than the ZT0350, IMO, just in terms of engineering and build quality. It's also quite a bit less expensive. They are pretty well matched to compete against each other though. The ZT if you like AO, the Manix 2 if you like the ball lock.

The review I was looking for. I LOVE my manix 1 and I see this as being a great addition to my collection but as a heavy user like the old Manix. If they come out with a Flat ground I'll be snatching that boy too. I am kinda glad this is in 154cm so when the Flat Ground S30V comes out I have two diff knives in diff steels and well......more justification (like I need it):D

Biginboca, do you have calipers to measure the thickness behind the edge bevel on the M2 and 0200? My original Manix was around .021"-.023", great for a good compromise of good cutting power and excellent durability. Some other manufacturers, especially of knives labeled as "tough knives" seem to go overboard with super thickedges that just make cutting a secondary feature to bragging rights about how good of a prybar it is. Spyderco keeps everything focused on cutting, even on their hard use folders like the Military and Manix, and I would expect similar from the M2. Mine should be here by This weekend or early next week, and I look forward to comparing it to my Manix and other knives in my collection.

I have $200 on hold for the S90v FFG Manix2 right now.

I hope it doesn't cost that much wholesale, but I'd pay it anyways. :D

That's it. I'm SOLD. Sabre grind be damned. There are simply too many other amazing features for me to ignore this any longer. I thought my sprint Swick would be my last purchase for a while, but that ball-bearing lock sure is enticing. I've been a convert ever since my Dodo and P'kal models. I'll be sure to buy further iterations of this design, as they're sure to be similarly exemplary.
