To all the Manix owners who have owned or handle frn and g10 versions. Is there a difference in the action between the FRN and the g10 versions? I had a FRN version and it wasn't as much like a Griptilian as I would have liked. I love G 10 and I would love to know how it compares to a FRN version.

There isn't a significant difference in the action, locking up or play of the blade.

That being said, the frn does have some flex when they are compressed together. That is only due to the Very small liners (around the pivot area).

Due to that, the G10/steel liner version is Significantly heavier and more stout. But if you are using you knife as a knife, then you shouldn't have to worry about the slight flex.
Mind you I Broke a s110v scales on a manix 2 intentionally to scavenge the blade and put it into a g10 body and it took Much more effort than I thought it would.
-------
If the decision comes down to s110v vs s30v and being indifferent towards the scales, I would take the s110v or go with a sprint manix 2.
(They have a 52100 string manix 2 coming up, and you can find some cruwear, and other higher end steels on the exchange)

I have both and prefer the 'feel' of the G10 version.
I have a feeling you are looking for a Manix lock to perform like an Axis lock.......not gonna happen.
The ball bearing lock is much 'tighter' than an Axis. It's tighter with either scale set also.
I found after using and playing with a BB lock they do get easier, but no where near an Axis.

I hate my lightweight version. Doesn't open very well nor does it close very well. Action on it is stiff even after adjusting pivot and lube

The G10 version has a much more solid feel. And feels of higher quality IMO.

FRN just feels light and cheap to me.

I've got a g10 version and I love the heft to it over frn. The way I would look at it is if you are concerned about the weight, go with the lightweight. If not, go with the g10. Mine took a little bit to break in and smooth out but so did my Para 2 and both are now buttery smooth.

I'd have to say that my g10 version is smoother than my s110v/frn one.

Your experience may differ.

I have one LW and 3 G10. They are all a little different. The S110V/FRN and Cruwear/G10 are the newest and their actions are very similar.

They take some breaking in and each will be different. Personally, I like my FRCP one the best. Falls closed without any blade play. After break in of course.

I'll second this.

My Manix(es?) were basically a two-handed closer for the first week or two.

Both of my manixes flew open. The g10s version's ball lock was a lot stiffer but I believe it's because I traded it before it broke in. My frn which I just got behaves exactly like an Axis lock save for a little stiffer spring.

My lightweights are smooth as silk. The Cruwear version I had was a bit stiffer, but not by much. It's not gonna ever be like a Grip, or a PM2, but a medium power thumb flick will lock it up every time.
I've never had one that would fall closed like a PM2...

FRN or G10, it's such a great knife, you really can't go wrong.
I'm so used to the texture on the FRN version, I find the handle gimping on the G10 version to be a bit aggressive. Almost feels kinda pokey in the hand, like the BM Contego

Here's a pic just cuz

My G10 Manix is crazy smooth. Pull back on the lock and the blade swivels open or closed. Very similar to my PM2 and my Axis knives. Actually, it's smoother than my mini grip but that's still pretty new. My two FRCP Manix's are also very smooth but not quite like the G10. They still swing open or closed pretty freely.

Like others have said, I think it largely depends on the individual knife. Give it some time and use and I'm sure it'll break in nicely.
