So I was cleaning my manix by just rubbing dawn all over the g10 scales blade and working it into the locking areas and then rinsing. Got all done and now it's like it's jammed. When I pull back on the lock it's so hard and then the ball bearing pops out of the plastic holder thing and stays in the locked position. I'm really not sure what to do here. Kinda upset that it's doing this also carried this for a couple months now and never had a problem. I keep looking at it and don't see anything stuck inside or anything. Please help. This is my favorite knife. But I guess worst case I get the new maxamet variant.

Ok so my initial shock has worn off still can't figure it out suppose i should contact spyderco.

Send it back to Spyderco, they will replace it. Don't try and fix it

Now take this with a grain of salt and only try it if you're comfortable with it, but maybe you can try putting the blade edge onto some wood, hold it very stable, and put some weight onto it while simultaneously attempting to disengage the lock.

Putting the weight onto the blade while open may loosen the lock just barely enough to disengage, if it's wedged in there too far.

Also could try blowing it out with compressed air first. The cleaning rinse may have lodged grit behind the ball.

Tried it and it didn't work also took some thick cloth and wrapped around it and pushed with my hand and that didn't do it either. One thing about this knife has zero blade play at all.

Well I just got it to pop loose held the bearing cage back and used a small metal rod to put leverage on the bearing and it popped free seems to be working fine but a little worried about it might still contact spyderco tomorrow and see what they think.

Have you tried putting oil in the locking mechinism?

If it sticks again just have a sheath made and carry as a fixed blade.

So the ball bearing pulled out of the plastic housing?

Correct. I have a semi picture of it here.

The half round thing in the front is the ball bearing was hard to get a picture trying to hold the spring back.

Send it back.
Apparently there is something significantly faulty with the knife and even if it magically started to work fine, I would always question it. That would lead to my not using and likely not even carrying it.

Yeah that shouldn't happen. I would definitely send it in to Spyderco detailing what it was doing and ask for a ball bearing/ ball bearing cage replacement. Either the ball bearing is a tad too small or the cage is slightly defective. My guess is the cage. I would definitely send it in. I've never seen or heard of that before.

Well I have contacted spyderco but charlynne is out until the 27th so until then. Not to concerned about it failing on me I don't use it for much anyways it's just something that I like to have around for those few times I do. In the meantime I've probably opened and closed it 200 times since and nothing seems off.

Well is it to late to change my answer? I used it to help me cut some pineapple and got done rinsed it off in the sink and now it got stiff so ok oil it up some with mineral oil like I always do and it's not stiff anymore but started to notice the spring inside squeaks faintly now.

Yeah I would get it in the mail as soon as all the holiday fiasco slows down. Wouldn't drop it in the mail until after the rush for sure. Monday or Tuesday though I would send it that way. Be sure and let us know how they handle it.

Yeah for sure I will I might wait till I at least get my new to me Delica super blue that's i just got off the forum and shipped today!

Ball bearing should not come out of the polymer cage. Only if you disassemble it and put it upside down.
It happened to me. I know it's against warranty, but I was switching ball bearing to ceramic. Works even smoother now.
If you didn't do anything like me, you should better send it to Golden.

That is a bummer it started acting weird again.
Your best bet would be to send it in.

The Manix is one of my most carried knives and the lock is great.
It can be stiff initially but my LW S110V smoothed out nicely.

The SB Delica should console you till the Manix is fixed.
