I have on order a Manix 2 and a Sage 2 in ti. I tried to search for threads on these but my search won't work for some reason. Just thought I would ask which is the favorite and reasons why. I have heard the Manix is super strong and the Sage IMO is pleasing to the eye, especially in titanium. I know this has probably been gone over more than once (my sincere apologies) but like I said my search wont search.
Thanks for any input!
P.S. I had expessed that my Leafstorm was not smooth and hard to unlock once open in another thread here. Glad to say after several hundred opening and closings it is smoothing out nicely. Can this be expected with the ti Sage 2? just asking....

I have the manix 2 and it is a beastly knife. I would have gotten the Sage 2 ti if I hadn't bit the bullet and bought a small sebenza.

Try using google to search the forum. It works for me.
Type: Bladeforum.com Sage 2 vs Manix 2
or something like that.

I will give it a try. i also have a small Sebenza (and a large classic) and I have wondered how they will compare with the Sage. I guessing that the Sage is a little thinner in the thickness department. Just not sure about that wire clip also.
Thanks for you input.

The Sage isn't a thin knife, perfect IMO. The inside width is just as wide or wider than a sebbie, unlike most spyderco's with very narrow inside width(that pinches my fingers a bit). I think you'll like the wire clip, it slides in the pocket very easy. I also like the handle more than the small micarta sebbie, and much more than a small sebbie with no inlays. The Sage is my favorite spyderco and I now carry it a bit more than either of my sebbies.

Don't have a Manix II(have an org 80mm manix on way), but it is a heavier and larger knife than the Sage....so like I, you may NEED both:p

Although I don't own a Sage II, I played with one and I was impressed. I really think it's up there with the Sebenza. I liked the wire clip. Pivot was really smooth, although not "Sebenza smooth", lockup was tight, and the knife was easy to operate with the spyder hole (as usual with Spydercos). A great piece me think...If I didn't have my Sebenzas, I'd be all over it.

I went to New Graham and touched just about all the Spyderco's they had. The Manix 2 was the only knife that made me instantly say 'oh yeah, that feels good'. I would of bought it, but they didn't have the plain edge.

I bought both the Mini manix S90V and the sage 2 Ti. they are in the mail to me as I am typing this. I will let you know what I think once they come in.

I have a Ti Sage, regular Manix 2 and also the CF S90V version. Nobody loves Ti frame locks more than me (truly) but I have to say I like the CF S90V Manix 2 most of all. Light, strong, ergonomic---just great!

My current EDC rotation is the CF Manix 2 and the Ti Sage. I blackened the clip on my Manix (see http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=673778) and so I carry it when I'm wearing dark pants. I carry the Sage (because of the wire clip) when I'm wearing light pants. If the Manix had a wire clip I would carry it everywhere.

As an aside: Bladeforums has ruined me. Prior to becoming active on BFC last winter I had carried the same EDC for six years. Since them it has changed four times as I have discovered and bought new knives that more closely reflect my ideal. Maybe when I get the Ti Military my quest will finally be over! Or the larger version of the Manix...or...

I picked up a Sage2. Nice open design. Not many moving parts. Wire clip slides around too much for my taste. Ergonomics are excellent. I didn't like the Stretch, but like the Sage. Go figure. Mine was very sharp out of the box. Here's a picture off the scanner next to a pack of stamps for comparison.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have both ordered (backordered actually) and I am looking forward to getting them. Elkins, I feel your pain. I have collected knives for quite awhile but once I joined the forum I usually find something new or something I think I have to have about once a week. Its an addiction of sorts and I think we will always be looking for that "perfect knife".

I really love the looks of that Sage II.The only thing keeping me from buying it,is it's size.Just too small for me at that price point.

Acually its more like a medium sized knife, and large for a 3" knife. The handle is Much larger than my small sebbie(which is close is qaulity, but much more$), Caly3, and Delica. IMO with its great design, Ti RIL and S30V its a great deal for what you get.

I think you'll be glad you did get both. Two great Syderco's...how could you go wrong with those two:thumbup:

The Sage/Sage2 are some of my favorite knives. Great in the pocket, smooth opening and just a very nice blade design. (i'm guilty of using the CF version more than the Ti version simply because i don't want to mark up the Ti)

The Manix 2 in S90V is just incredible, but in my book a beast of a knife!!! Ya the Millie is longer but the Manix looks like it can handle a bunch of stuff easily!

I have stated this elsewhere, but I took a rat tail file and very gently rounded over the "sharp" edge of the Spydie hole on my Sage II, along with that sharp line of demarcation that bisects the spydie hole. These places were not sharp per se, but when you sit there and open the knife 800 times like I do, they start to feel sharp. So a very gentle champhering of those edges is real nice on the thumb. Can't tell it by looking, but you can feel the difference.

I would rather have it be too sharp than too chamfered. The biggest complaint I hear about Benchmade's Skirmish models was that the beveled thumbhole let your thumb slip out. Those knives are just barely one-hand openers--if your hands were just the tiniest bit oily your thumb will slip out of the hole.

Help Me somebody!!! I'm so addicted! I am ashamed to say that I also ordered a discontinued Lava and a Kopa in carbon fiber today also. My wife is gonna kill me. She thinks I have too many knives already. I tell her you can never have to many. Besides, im buying them to leave to my son and future grandchildren when im gone. Did I mention my son is not even a teenager yet?

Ken,
How much larger and is the quality really like the Sebenza's? I really like my Sebenza so I would be really pleased if it matches up .

I have a Ti Sage and a CRK Umnumzaan and I have to say the Sage is damn near close to the Umnum in quality. The handle is beautifully finished, lockup is rock solid, and the primary and edge grinds on the blade are perfect (really, I can't find a single flaw). Ergos are excellent for a smaller knife. The only very minor quibbles I have are 1.) I would like to see the spine of the blade chamfered just a bit to break the edges, and 2.) I would like a solid clip instead of the wire one. But really, it is an excellent knife, especially at less than half the cost. Of course, a CRK really is a great knife too and worth the extra cost, especially considering the blade is much bigger.

The sage handle is about the same width, .25 longer, and has more handle heigth. When you use the choil it also gives you much more handle in hand since you only need 3 fingers on it behind choil.
I'll try to get a pic of both in morning and add to post.

The quality of the sebenza may be a little better, but the Sage is top notch and opens just as smooth(but easier with hole) and locks just as tight. But the best thing about it is the way the handle locks into hand allowing for a more powerfull cut than a small sebbie.

Like Powernoodle above I smoothed out the spine in same place above hole. Mine had the most crisp spine edge I've ever seen. It only took a few minutes with a med then fine spyderco rod to really smooth it out nicely around thumb area.

I've had mine just over a month and still pull it out to fondle at least 15/20 times a day:o I bought my first spyderco in the early 80's and have been buying/collecting knives longer than that and this is the best feeling med sized folder I have ever held. The Large sebbie handle is/was my most favorite folder handle ever, but I like this med sage handle at least as much.

The Tawain thing kept me from buying at first, but once i handled it I'm sure glad i didn't let that stop me.

edit to add pics.

whoops, these are blurry, but you can see how I can get all fingers on Sage, but can't really get a good purchase with pinky on sebbie. I do have large hands though.
