manix 2 vs. manix

The Manix 2 is a good knife, but it ain't no Manix.

Kind of like the BM Presidio "Ultra". Compared to the Presidio there is nothing "Ultra" about it.

The origional Manix was a tank. The Manix 2 is more of a Humvee.

How is the Manix 2 not a tank?

I much prefer the original Manix because of the back lock and tip-down carry. The Manix 2 requires two hands to unlock (at least for me), and the ball-in-cage lock or whatever it is just doesn't look that great to me nor really float my boat. Just a personal preference thing.

The Manix 2 is really more comparable to the old mini-Manix, both in terms of size and tip-up only carry.

The original Manix also feels way beefier to me than the Manix 2. The Manix 2 is a good value, though, for those who like the lock and the tip-up only carry configuration.

I love the Manix 2 - especially the ones with the skeletonized liners. Closing one handed is a snap IMHO. Use your thumb and index finger to retract the lock and let the blade fall . . .

Over time can you close the BB lock with just a thumb? I also have to use my thumb and index / or just two hands to close the ones I've looked at here at gun shows

I would like to get a Manix 2 soon, but maybe as a trade so it can be broken in :)

The original Manix is a real tank, no questions about that. The Manix II is a good knife but it isn't as heavy duty in my opinion. I think the Manix II is great for EDC, but if the shtf I want my original large Manix along side my ZF's.

FIW I could get the Manix II to close one handed I just did not like the blade dropping on my finger.

I added the emphasis

The lock is strong, self adjusting and offers no play. the new Manix broke well into the "very heavy duty" range (MBC). It's stronger than the earlier Manix but at a lower weight and it's easier to clean. The beauty of the ball lock is that all of the strength is within a small area arojund the pivot and ball. Liners are not even necessary as in competitive locks. In addition, action on the ball locks is exceptional.

Think of it as a high-performance, light-weight tank.

havent held the manix 2 but the old manix is a beast of a knife...but ive heard nothing but good about the manix 2:thumbsup:

I did say in my opinion. I guess if I had the knife for more time than a passaround allows I might come to trust and like the II version as well as the original. I did like the blade shape very much, very useful size for daily use, I am also a fan of the standard version of the 154CM steel used. I might have preferred the FFG but am also a fan of the sabre grinds as it provides a stronger tip. There is no question that it cleans very easy.

thanks for the info boatsman. much appreciated. i needed these info to make a decision on what hard use folder i'll be buying. I have an endura 4 and a millie and for the moment my endura is the beater.

Any other subjects and we'd be bitching about how heavy a knife is . . .

I have an original mini (hard to think of it as "mini") and a CFS90V Manix 2; the mini is quite close in size to the Manix 2. Blades on both are FFG ( personal favorite), Manix 2 is thinner and likely a better slicer. I prefer the blade profile of the M2 over the Mini, it is a tad longer and pointier. Both have great ergos, feel great in hand in multiple grips. The Mini is a tank of a knife, substantial frame is a bit heavy but quite strong; excellent mid lock. G-10 has great feel, very grippy. The CFS90V has a skeletonized frame, both thinner and lighter. CF has a nice feel to it, quite grippy. Ball lock is strong and takes some getting used to, mine is still a bit on the stiff side. The manix 2 carries in pocket better but both knives are worth having. I do not have the standard M2, but really like the hollow grind of my Native. I would also think that CPM154 is quite adequate as steel goes, no issue there. Grab a Manix 2, but the original is definitely worth having- if you find one buy it.

Here are a couple of quick side by side comparison shots:

+1

There is no comparison between the original full-size Manix and the Manix 2. The original is a much bigger, more robust knife...I was not impressed when the Manix 2 came out..more like a mini-Manix size wise...and no tip down carry killed it for me. That's why I scooped up another full size on evil-Bay...redundancy purposes;)..I'm set for folders now.
Just my opinion.

yes there is the no tip down carry. i wonder how much it saves not providing for a 4 way choice of carry.
