Manix 2 vs Native 5

everything comes down to personal preferences.
I have a lot respect for Manix2 and Para and owned several of each. I sold all Manixes (except XL). I own only Dark green and orange paras with no intention to carry.
Native5 is not leaving my pocket for several years. It is my most used knife. My favorite is 2013 Forum knife. It goes through several dozen of boxes closed with glass fiber reinforced tape every month. It is very comfortable knife. I use choil for full grip and have absolutely no problem with it.

Two of my favorite spydercos. I love my native but only carry it in place of the Manix 2 when I need a tiny lightweight knife that is similar to the Manix. The Manix 2 is the perfect folder/user blade. I like it way more than my PM 2.

Just got my native 5 forum knife and I gotta say that I'm damn impressed. It's the first lock back knife I've bought in probably 20 years. The thing just screams quality. So solid. Very different size, weight, ergos from my manix2, but I am really liking it so far. Also my first S90v. Thanks to those of you that pushed me (not that it was difficult) to pick one up!!

Depends on the size of knife you want to lug around, and the size of your hands IMO.

I have large hands, and have to use the choil on the Native 5 for a full grip. For the Manix I can easily get a full grip behind the choil.

The drawback is that the Manix is quite wide in pocket, and the standard production models do not have drilled out liners, so they are quite heavy. It is likely too big as an office EDC, where the Native 5 feels much more appropriate in that role.

IMO, the biggest considerations when deciding between these two are their size (i.e. what works well for your system and if 4 fingers w/out the choil is a must) and whether you like a thumb ramp or not. I know of a few people who just couldn't warm up to the Native for the second reason. I think the Native ergos are superior to the Manix, but both are quite good. Where the Manix falters for me is the width in pocket, as mentioned. I've only bought the lightweights because I feel they are 98% as capable as the G10 varieties @ half the weight. Weight isn't all important to me though...if I really wanted a G10 Manix, I'd get one. I EDC'd an Ultra Lock CS Recon 1 for a couple years @ ~7oz if memory serves me right. ;)

witch one you pick!is going to be up to you in the end, but i carry and use my natives much more then i do the manix,i have found the manix way to big and heavy in my pants pocket!i'll even EDC my gayle bradley 1)before i carry manix, good luck.

Hope this isn't too far off topic: I bought the G10 Native 5 when they first came out and returned it immediately. I found it very heavy considering how little cutting edge you get. The Caly 3.5 is around the same size and weight, for example, and it's got 1/2" more blade. Several years later I got a Native 5 Lightweight and it's quickly become one of my favorite knives. At 2.5 oz it's a lot of blade in a very lightweight and ergonomic package. I love the look and feel of it, the stout little blade that is still a good slicer, and way the blade drops closed when you depress the lock.

Just sold a Manix 2 Lightweight S110v. Awesome knife, felt great in the hand, action was super smooth, ball bearing lock is awesome and similar in function to an Axis lock, just too big for me to carry around. I had tried a Native 5 Lightweight a while back, but didn't like the ergos. However, the size was good in my pocket and it was half an ounce lighter than the already light Manix. One of the things I like about Spydercos is the thumb ramp (personal favorite is the Caly because it sort of exemplifies that handling). You're looking at a little more weight with the G10/lined versions, but probably the same comparison. FWallthatIW...

Like what bh49 mentioned, it boils down to your personal preference and also what do you use the knife for? Native 5 is easier to carry in the pocket compared to the size of Manix 2. As for me, I carry Manix2 and DF2 as the same time :)

For EDC the native will be my choice that said the native is not the better slicer of the two .

Normally only the sprints have skeletonised liners. I have read nothing that would indicate it will be different with the standard production S110V model, unfortunately. Best bet is to wait for them to hit the market.

Actually just within the past few days Mr. Michael Janich had confirmed on Spyderco forum that the S110V Manix 2 will indeed have lighter skeletonized liners.
This was in the thread about the composite sprint Manix 2, for reference.

I'm in the same boat but decided to wait and go for the Native 5 in Blurple rather than the Manix. At least to begin with. I may at some point end up with both.

Hi and thanks for the welcome. I keep forgetting we are all enablers. I'm pretty sure that will happen :)

Welcome to the Forum.
You should join Spyderco Forum to meet real enablers. :)
I owned few Manixes and wasn't impressed. But I like LW and XL models. You should get them as well. :)
Good hunting.

Thanks for the welcome also. I have joined the Spyderco forum as well recently, it's not helping me with my new addiction lol. :D

It should help with feeding it :)

Ok final answer I just got my manix 2 s110v lw. Short answer is get both! Love em equally!

I usually categorize knives into love, strong like or don't like/get rid of. The native lw and manix lw are clearly in the love em category for me at least.
