Manix 2 vs PM2

They are both strong as all hell, but I would have to say the Ball is a little stronger lock up. The compression is easier to manipulate by a long shot though.
 
I'm not an engineer but if you think through what would have to happen for the compression lock to fail I would say it is the stronger of the two.
 
They're both very strong. If you manage to break either of them then, IMO, you should've been using a fixed blade!

Locking mechanism aside, choose the knife you think you'll like more...

...then a couple weeks later buy the other one. ;)

They're both far stronger than anyone with common sense could possibly require. ;):)
 
I'm not sure which lock is stronger. But I can say that I find the compression lock much easier to manipulate.

What skyhorse said. If you are going to use either knife to the point of lock failure, you should be using some other tool.

At work I don't have a PM2 in front of me but IIRC the limiting factor is the stop pin and its 2 screws through the liners. The Manix 2 would be similar, but its lock is pushing on a spacer insead of a single pin.

I just pulled out the blade that I am carrying today. It is not a Spyderco but it has a lock that is sometimes compared to the BBL. On this one the lock bar slides in cutouts in fairly thick liners so I'm thinking it has the edge on strong.

I doubt if any of this matters in normal use for 99% of the people that own these 3 different styles.
 
Any time anyone asks on the forums which Spyderco to buy, the answer is always "just get both." haha!
 
Thanks guys, I already have both! Just curious which one was stronger to take into the woods this fall.
 
Small fixed blade is stronger I'd take that in the woods. Between the two I'd take the Manix out camping/hunting only because of the slightly stronger tip.
 
It's like trying to decide between two really good looking sisters....

Manix vs para is pretty much a tie for me, but I like my millies and xl manixes much better. The only consideration I would put into the lock is which one you prefer better as far as opening/closing. Strength high enough on both that it ceases to be a factor for regular use, did I metion hard spine whacks are stupid and I hate that some individuals think its a legit test:D Its a safe bet that youll break something else that makes it unusable (like the blade) before you break the lock.
 
I would say that it is possible for the ball bearing lock to actually slip due to its roundness and slipperyness, and the compression lock is not going anywhere in that manner. Would I worry about it at all? No, Spyderco does extensive testing, and they work.
