Recommendation? Manix 2 with G-10 (dark blue ) S110V , found a great deal and it's on the way ...but now second guessing the steel .

If you decide you need to part with the manix 2 because it just isn't for you let me know I was tempted with the model when I bought the native. Kinda wish I went that route.
Unless there's something really wrong with it , probably be keeper and one I'll actually carry and use .

I have a Manix 2 LW and an XL . Love them both . Ball bearing lock is my 2nd favorite lock system ! 😍

My very first modern knife was a lined S110v native 5 (in 2017, now discontinued). I’m still very fond of that one … I added several s110v Manix 2, Militaries and PM2 since then, never an issue.
 
So...if I understand correctly , for Spyderco S110V models only , all the handles are this same dark blue / "burple" color ? 🤓

I have an S110V millie that I use frequently. I have been gentle on it and conscious of what im cutting and cutting against and its remained shaving sharp for years. Light EDC and a ton of kitchen use. I started carrying it more recently as I am trying to rotate and give all my millie sprints some pocket time.

Last week we were at a brewery around a fire pit and the dudes that work there were struggling to light LARGE split pieces of wood with paper towels and cardboard. A couple beers in, I popped the S110v millie out of the pocket, opened it, looked at it, took a deep breath and went to town.

I shaved a boat load of curls off this dry seasoned, dirty, nasty split log. Then feathered up every corner and edge I could. Folded and pocketed the Millie and got that fire roaring.

The next day I opened the knife to check the blade, worried about micro chipping or anything similar. To my amazement it still would shave. It wasnt a smooth shave and would pull many of my arm hairs. The edge still glided smoothly through a piece of notebook paper. I think it woukd have held that working edge forever.

Just because, I used a dmt diafold (looks like a balisong with rough and fine grit on each side). To touch it up. Free handed 10/9/8/7/6/5/4/3/2/1 strokes per side on rough and then the same on fine. Hit the stop for 6 passes a side and done. It shaved like a mach 3 razor.

Im very impressed with it. Ive been thinking of getting another knife in S110V. Because it worked great. Im much more confident in the steel now

They’ve always been Blurple…..at least the 5 that I own have been. (Love S110V.)
 
It just looks navy blue to me, unless the sun hits it just right, then its blurple
 
This is kind of a weird use, but I used my S110v Para 2 to chop really hard pills in half against a wooden desk for a few months. After all that chopping through and slamming into the desk underneath it, it just blunted the edge a bit, but it never chipped at all. I wouldn't have done that normally, and kind of regret it, but I planned to reprofile it to a lower edge angle anyway, so I wasn't too worried about keeping the edge up. However then I got lazy and still haven't sharpened it yet haha. It still has a useful working edge though, razor sharp everywhere except for where I'd cut those puppies up.

My concern is for the steel , S110V . Seems like mixed reviews , but many chipping problems .

(Yeah , did my research ,mostly after the purchase . Not the best way ! :rolleyes:) But , hey , BNIB for ~$120 !

So: great hardness and ER , but fragile ? So then , carefully cut mainly soft stuff ,or ....? :confused:

I have always avoided the super hard , high ER types in favor of toughness ; but thought I'd try a small folder .Toughness maybe less critical .

Do I have reason to be worried ? 🥺

I kid, sort of.....

The S110v PM2 I had came used with a tiny bit broken off the tip. So yeah, I took it to be a little more brittle. Fixed the tip and used it bit, not enough to draw any major conclusions, just normal EDC stuff. It did not chip anymore though. Only reason I sold it was because I already had 3 other PM2s at the time.

S110v was the hot steel, but a while ago. Lots of info out there on the stuff.

I say use it and see how it goes. Use it as a normal folding knife though, not one of your Cold Steel pocket brick smashinators 😂:D;)

They do make pill splitters .

Mostly useful for not having ,the halves , shoot off , onto the floor . Lost forever . 🤬
