Manix 2 XL and Puukko

I've not had a Manix 2 open in my pocket yet, but I don't carry one very often, either. The lack of tip-down carry on ball bearing, caged ball bearing, Bolt Action and axis locks is the biggest reason I don't carry any of them much. I know the tip down clip would interfere with releasing the lock, but I've been bitten enough times to prefer tip down almost to the exclusion of tip up only.

I don't know why they don't just drill for tip-down carry. I don't think it would interfere that much.

I would surely like to carry a Manix 2 or Manix 2 XL if it had tip-down carry as an option.

I was excited about the Manix 2 XL until I saw they gave it the same teeth-all-over treatment as the Manix 2. Too much work dismantling it, grinding off all that crap and reassembing it. Pass.

I hate those teeth! I've always been surprised more people don't seem bothered by them. They hurt.

Yep, that's one of the reasons me and the manix 2 don't get along. It's like holding a rebar or something.

I'm not exactly sure how the Military could be upgraded.

As for the Manix 2 XL, it needs a tip down option. I've had more than one Manix 2 open up in my pocket, resulting in exsanguination and cut pants. The larger blade in the XL would be even more likely to do that. I carry lots of stuff in that same pocket (keys, etc.) , which can get in the Spydie hole and open up the knife if its carried tip up. This may not be the case for other folks.

Just tip up/down, left/right carry option. That's about it really.

Manix 2 XL is a must buy for me. I like larger folders.

I'm excited for the Szabo too.

So far Spyderco is winning my folder dollars for next year.

I'm excited for the Szabo as well but as far as the Manix XL goes... well.... it is larger than the Manix 2 but it's not exactly "large" is it? and it's certainly not XL! Why not just go back to the original large Manix? I would snap one of those up in a minute,

So does this xl manix pretty much have the same physical dimensions of the original fullsize manix, but with the ball lock instead of the back lock?.

If it is then I am definately excited..

The handle has identical length and appears to be the same shape. The blade is 3mm longer and the edge 4mm longer than the original C95.

Cool. Thanks for letting me know.

I heard the blade will be thinner than the original manix as well. Do you know if thats true?. I hope not:(

Yep, it's 3mm, which makes it a slightly longer Manix 2 rather than the beast that was the C95.

The teeth have never bothered me. Never noticed them really. If they did, I would gripe about it. I love to gripe.

I thought I'd hate the jimping on the Manix 2 but I love it from an ergonomic standpoint. The thing I didn't get until I got one was that the jimping is 90% recessed below the edge of the scales. From an aesthetic viewpoint I think it looks too busy which is why I had my liners powder coated; which does void the warranty.

I'm still hunting for 4"+ blades, and I don't see any in the new catalog. If anything the Butch Vallotton is even more appealing now that I know it has a larger blade than the XL Manix.

Just did a google on the Spyderco Puukko...One dealer has the it up for preorder at ca. 220 USD.

Thats almost 500 bucks for the 2 Spydies ive wanted most - the Southfork (250 USD) and Puukko. Yikes.
