Do you guys own a Manix 2 ?
Does the ball bearing lock need breaking in?
Releasing the blade is kinda hard on my new one.
Definitely can't unlock the blade one handed .

Even my broken in Manix 2 takes a bit of pressure to overcome the spring and bearing stick.
One handed isn't an issue though, one finger is.
I put the butt of the knife right in the middle of my palm and pull back on the lock with thumb and index. Properly adjusted the blade falls back to closed position. That's on the Manix I got yesterday. Quick break in. I also used graphite on the bearing ramp and lock area on the blade. Helps a lot with the sticky lock and sore fingers.

It's a very strong coil spring, I've had my Manix 2 for a few years and it hasn't changed. There's a certain technique to swinging it closed you have to seat the butt of the knife in your palm and pull back on the mechanism with your index finger and thumb while simultaneously swinging the blade closed.

I have 2 that I bought used and one of them behaves this way. My other one sticks just a bit and takes a bigger tug to get it started, but it still works easily one-handed. I have not tried to lubricate either one yet.

Depends what you are comparing it to. If you compare it to an Axis lock then yes it's tough. By tough I mean that the spring is strong.

Great knife however. Super great knife!

Im happy to hear this. I just did work on an XL and have one on the way. By all means it worked one handed but was tight and would not budge otherwise. That is a no no-sense type of lock that I look for. Im not a fan of the axis lock but this seems to fit the bill.

Mine never got easier to open/close. It's just a strong spring, I ended up selling mine.

I've never had a problem with mine. The only time I did have a problem was when I got some new aftermarket scales: the groove around the ball bearing cage was too tight to allow it to slide easily, so a quick knock down with a file and I was in perfect shape.

This guy shows multitude of ways to open it including the MFF, thumb flick, the "spydie-hold-flick".

Also shows the easiest way to close it.

Especially check out 38/39 seconds, also 50/52 seconds in. Great middle finger flick technique and good closing example.

Thanks.
Barman, thanks for the graphite powder trick. I just did it and it makes a difference.

I'm wondering if the lock on the Manix2 LW feels the same as standard Manix2 knives? Also does the new FFG Manix2 have milled out liners?

Mine broke in really quickly, a day or two. I gave one to my good friend, and he had a bit of trouble with it, took a week or two.

There is definitely a technique to closing the knife with one hand. If you play with it enough you will break it in, and get more comfortable with your tool at the same time.

When i first got mine it was a bit stiff, but has broken in somewhat. I can, although it is not nearly as easy as an axis lock, disengage the lock with one finger.

I just received my like new in box Manix 2 XL. This is an amazing knife. I did work on a S90V version and fell in love with it just by holding it. I used mine a bit today and really enjoy the lock. It is a smooth and rock solid design with a nice big flat ground blade. I cannot stand the clip , but besides that this thing is in my pocket and loving it. The lock is easy enough to manipulate with two fingers and works even with just my thumb. Awesome job Spyderco . Thanks for a new toy. This for me tops the Para and Military which were my two favorite designs. Now I just need to choose a material from my upcoming order and Pimp this baby out. Wow, its such a fun knife.

I think the pocket from the original spaceman will work nice on this.

Thanks,I haven't seen the new ones for sale by dealers yet. Pretty sure I'll be trying one soon.

I got mine from Canada. The Manix 2 is one of my favorites and just couldn't wait to get my hands on the FFG. Price was right too.

Hey Matt,

Here's my regular Manix 2 with a spaceman clip and Allen Putman scales. His clips are really great. Awesome fit, sits in the pocket really well.
