looking to get into spyderco and looking at these and a couple others, if you guys could give me your opinions on the too. I know all of it comes down to preference but it is always nice to get some feedback on em:thumbup:

Thanks!

Tons of positive feedback on both of them all over here....pick which one appeals to you most.

I have them both and both are good knives. But I bought a Manix 2 XL and then bought my PM2. The end result? I bought another Manix 2, have a third on order, and am anxiously awaiting the release of the 4th. That doesn't speak to anything negative about the PM2, it just shows how much I like the Manix line.

There is a significant difference in size between the Manix 2 XL & the PM2. The Manix is considerably larger both in blade and overall size. The Manix blade is wider and longer, thus having more steel and making it a great slicer. Also, I find the blade tip more substantial on the Manix. But what really sells me on the Manix is the handle design. It is one of the most comfortable grips of any knife I own.

If you can, try to physically look at each. Frankly, it has a lot to do with personal preference. I prefer the Manix, but I think that you'll find many who prefer the PM2. They are both good knives and neither will disappoint.

Good luck on your decision. :)

Do there so happen to be any sprint run pre orders in the manix 2 xl? I have a couple s30v spydies right now and would like to try a new steel if I could.

No pre-orders yet (that I know of), but one non-BF supporting dealer has an exclusive run coming up in 3Q13 for a Manix2 XL CPM-S90V, Peel Ply Carbon Fiber Handle, Plain Edge.

Thanks you guys!! Any suggestions on vendors? They seem to be out of stock just about everywhere...

Not sure which knife you have decided on, but both are hard to find. You'll just have to keep your eyes open until one is available. AFAIK, no one has a PM2 available right now. They come in and sell out very fast. That said, Knife Center (who is a BF supporter) has a black/satin Manix 2 XL available at a pretty decent price of $112. Here:

I also found the same knife at another dealer for less, but can't post it because that dealer is not a BF supporter.

Bottom line - you'll just have to look. :)

Two different blades you talking about there....

The PM2 is compression lock... Not friendly to southpaw...light weight. The Manix XL is bearing lock...similar the BM Axis but stiffer. Much Heavier than the PM2. EDC wise, PM2 won't let you down.

I have both and I would buy both again and I will probably buy more of both, if I were you I would buy both.

The Manix 2 XL slices better and the handles are very well made. The CBBL is also extremely smooth, strong, and safe. The only advantage that the PM2 has over Manix 2 XL is that is is much more pocket friendly. I love my Manix 2 XL very much, but it stays at home. The Manix XL carries too high, and is too wide in the pocket. If concealled carry and if your pocket space isn't an issue, get the XL!

2 of my favorite 3 Spyderco's, the PM2 carries easier and the compression lock is my favorite lock. I prefer the size of the Manix 2 and the lock into your hand handle

I like the manix 2 xl way more than the PM2. To me, the manix is beefier and seems a lot stronger, like you can huck it at a wall over and over. Both are good choices, I just don't get all the hype of the pm2. So yeah, I'd go with a manix xl for sure, and you don't have to waste a whole bunch of time finding one.

I have a PM2 and have a Manix 2 XL on order. I know the Manix 2 XL is going to be an awesome knife. The PM2 is probably better for EDC just because it is much thinner when closed. And, the PM2 flies open. It's an awesome all-around knife that can do anything. That said, I decided to get the Manix 2 XL as well just because I know it is going to be a beast of a knife with tank-like build quality, and I love the handle design. I hope it lives up...

Personal preference, having owned both I preferred the big Manix and IMO it's a way better value of the two. Here's my .02 worth.

Pro's - 2XL: Big, beefy blade. Blade to handle ratio is almost perfect. Comfortable grip, especially if you have large hands. You can actually obtain one.
Cons - 2XL: It's big, size wise comparable to a ZT0560 but much lighter. CBBL can be difficult to release one handed.

Pro's - PM2: Comfortable handle if you have large hands. Manageable size, light weight. Compression lock easy to deploy and release one handed.
Cons - PM2: Blade to handle ratio is not proportional (small blade, big handle). Thin tip. Hard to find and over priced.

I really prefer my Manix 2 XL to my Paramilitary 2 as well. It just feels prefect in my hand. Size is fine for my pocket..Never notice it's there. My PM 2 is my car knife now since it fits in the console with my Super Tool, bits and GPS unit perfectly. I'd get both though, along with the Mini Griptilian. Those three knives complement one another perfectly IMO.

I have a PM2 and a Manix2 (not the XL)

I believe the Manix line is onne of the best values in Spyderco line up. You get a ton of high end materials, great ergos, smooooth lock, and very high craftmanship for your money. I just purchased the lase Manix 2 PE satin blade from my fav online retailer. It will be my backup and reside in my safe

Drew

If you like the manix blade shape but the PM2's compression lock, check out the Superleaf.

Hey 500lbman, I am curious about your screen name...are you really strong or really fat? ;-)

I'm 5'8" 175lbs lol! I go to the gym 2-3 times per week hahaha! Had to think of a username a long time ago and it was easy to remember...
