Hi guys,
I have a chance to buy a manix (any kind) and was wondering if the prices would go up in a couple years so I could sell it for a profit? What kind would be the best choice, FG, regular or mini? I have handled he large one and like it alot, can someone post pics of the mini? So should I buy a manix or not?:D

Buying a Manix as an investment is a dicey proposition IMO.
Because at any time, Spyderco might do a sprint run of them.
Or possibly release an "improved" version.

Buy it as a user ,you won't regret it!
Knives or guns as an investment can be at best a risk!

Any Spyderco, once it's discontinued can go up pretty fast. It's just hard to say which ones will and how fast. The Yojimbo's have been going higher and higher on eBay, with blues hitting 130-150 and a Black a few days ago went over 200. Wasn't long ago you could buy them for under 100. Large Persians are another example. I paid less than 90 for one sold it early in the year and had a heck of a time finding another, when I decided to replace it. The only one I've seen on eBay lately had scuffed up bolsters and brought about 175.
I think the more popular models, that are already the higher priced models once they are gone will raise in value. They sure aren't what I'd call a great investment, but you won't get hurt on them nearly as bad as most other production folders. I have 3 F/G Manixes put up not as an investment, but to trade later for other Spyderco's that I may not be able to find otherwise. (I've already got a large Persian and a older ATS-34 Military and boot for two I'd bought and probably wouldn't have been able to buy them outright)
Sypderco's have enough of a following to at least be able to get your money back pretty easy on any you keep NIB. I've found that no other production folder comes close to doing that across the entire line as well. Benchmade is the only brand I consider even close and they aren't close enough to make me want to collect them. (i have some and believe me it takes a long time for people to pay more than what they cost new once they are discontinued)
So if you like Spyderco's and want to collect them, they are an interesting (IMO) knife, but not really a way to make a bundle.

If you want to buy for a profit get them on the secondary market here on BF or elsewhere.
That is where you will sell them so it also helps to know what you can expect to get and how the market has been doing.

Yeah... for an "investment" I'd find something else. If you're just interested in ease of resale, PEs seem to be more popular than CEs or SEs and I've seen more requests lately for the full-sized Manix.

There is already a prototype of a mini-Manix with a ball lock, so there may be a full sized "Manix 2" in the works also.

You might want to grab the 2 Mules we are allowed when the Mule2 comes out?
I have heard of the originals going for over 100$. Not bad for a 40$ knife.

Manix knives are intended to be used... Unless your are planning to sell them 10 years down the road and make an extra 50$.. But thats about it..

Discontinued Spydie prices are funny. You have to sell at the right time.
Maroon and gray Goddards were going very high a while back but they have fallen off big time.I have seen several other models do this too.All in all most all do go up some.Funny thing is that as soon as they are no longer made they become rare and hard to get.
There are 2 that sold out very cheap when they were discontinued that went up very high, mini micarta dyad and the mouse. The dyad was selling for 25.00 each and the Mouse for 39.95 when dealers were getting rid of the stock.
