Well, there's tons of threads on the Manix and I hate to start another one but I just got one from the store today and so far I like.

I saw the pics when they first came out and thought they were hella ugly and seeing as I had a Chinook 2 the desire for something that looked similar only a lot uglier was just not there.

But after seeing a friends Manix last weekend and getting in some 'fondling' time with it, along with Buzzbaits endorsement this past week...well my fate was decided...

Visa loves me.

haha!! nice!! welcome to the club.

you KNOW you'll never hold a more comfy handle on a folder than that. plus, the knife is just beefy - but not to the point of being a brick in the pocket. gotta love it.

Months ago, I dismissed the Manix as too lightweight but I liked the design too much, so I went back and got a pair of them.

Both blades have the infamous stripped screws but a trip to the hardware store solved the problem for Manix #1. Manix #1 has been my edc for a few weeks and had some lateral blade play but a quick tightening of the pivot fixed that.

Manix #2, the problem was the with the holes in the handle (I like tip up, r. handed) as the factory and hardware screws didn't fit. This was resolved by attaching a generic folder clip to a large screw and applying to the lanyard hole. Haven't carried it yet.

Performance wise, the Manix cut cardboard as well as my BG-42 Buck 110 but cut cleaner on plastics and stiffer materials. Overall, I still like weight and strength Chinook #1 but prefer the Manix blade.

I'm tempted to get the Lil Temperance but I'm anxious to the see the Bison.

Smoke, I had the same problem with getting the clip to screw in with tip up r/handed. I thought I was incompetent or something. Did you ever call and figure out why this was?

Run, I didn't call Spyderco about it.

I looked it Manix #2 and couldn't spot any grooves in the holes. I may actually send Manix #2 in but I'm waiting for my Moran to return from resharpening. Or I could send it to forumite Dirk for a re-tap.

i had the same problem (tip up r/hand). i took my manix apart and it appears that when they went to tap the holes whatever system they used missed the holes since there were deep marks about 1-2 mm long leading to the holes but no threads inside the holes. after messing around a little bit i had a flash of intuition and simply switched the liners around so i don't have tip up l/hand but i do have tip up r/hand.

p.s. the manix was my first knife over 60$ and i have never be so impressed as when i first slid the box open. i have a chinook II on the way now.

Guess I was just lucky!

I had no problem whatsoever switching my Manix from tip-down to tip-up carry. :D

It's now my EDC (replacing my Chinook I) and I can't think of anything I would want changed on it!

Thanks, Eric and Sal, for one heavy-duty, ergonomic, razor-edged tool!

Ordered mine yesterday.

Looks like everything I like in a knife, except one thing, and that one thing is what kept me from getting one sooner.

I like a sharpened blade form tip to handle, and the Manix has that large choil thingie.

But hey any knife named after my dads favorite tv detective is ok buy me.

Lone Hunter--the choil thingie is what hits the tip of my index finger when I'm doing the one-hand close. It's a good thingie. The Manix is ALL good.

And I liked the TV detective, too. But he never learned to stay away from darkened underground parking garages.

Yes I know why Spyderco puts these choils on their lockbacks, I just don't like them, and I don't close my knives so the blade swings onto my finger. :)

Not that there is anything wrong about doing that.I would gladly trade a little more edge, and the look of a choils less blade for having to use a little more care in closing.

Differant strokes for differant folks.

One more Manix question. What was his secretaries name?

Sorry, Lone Hunter--I should have known by your post count that you would know knife terminology.

Was it Peggy? A pleasant, sharp black woman, as I recall. More trivia at the risk of a thread hijack: what was Mannix's ethnicity, and what was that of the actor who played him?

Which reminds me--Mr. Glesser (or any Spyderphiles), what's the story behind the knife's name?

Peggy it was! Just called home, UPS left me a small package, but its another11 hours till I'll be home.Tick tick tick.......

The name, from I've read here, is made up by Eric Glesser. A lot of people mention the old TV show (one of my favorites back then) but that show has a spelling of 'Mannix,' not 'Manix.'

I've recently got on the Manix Bandwagon. I bought it some time ago; just never got aroudn to using it. I've used it over the last few days and it's quickly becoming my favorite Spydie. Ergonomic to a point, a nice blade that has chopped through boxes, food and cord without even needing a touch up, and the strength of a lock back makes this one my new EDC (replacing the Chinook I). Spyderco really out did themselves this time.

...that's it. I'm declaring a moratorium on any more talk about the Manix. I haven't even received the Paramilitary I bought this Monday and already I'm wanting the Manix. Heck, I just sold my Spyderco diamond rods yesterday, with the thought of applying the funds toward a Manix.

C'mon now, cut a guy some slack. Stop posting on the forums and go outside and do chinups with your Manix, alright?

;) :) :D

funny you should mention that. one of the main things i love about the manix that's missing from 99.99% of all folders is a pronounced choil/guard to protect hand slippage onto the blade. i don't even consider buying choil-free knives. the more pronounced the guard, the better.

here's a poem i just wrote in tribute:

i love my manix, oh so much,
i love my manix, in my clutch..
i will love my manix with all my might,
until my wife tries to use it on me in the middle of the night...

:p

Ouch! Maybe I *shouldn't* leave my Manix on the bedstand next to me at night... :D

haha, good preventive measure. you know, i wasn't posting at bladeforums when loraina bobbit did her thing, but it must have been quite a storm of discussion.

anyway.. go manix!

The pressure was too much for me.

I couldn't keep my credit card number away from newgraham's any longer.

First spyderco-arrived Tuesday

Manix ordered- Friday

Damn you spyderco, and your addictiveness

I've actually even carried IWB a few times with this knife with no problems at all.

Pretty good considering there's not a whole lot of room to spare ;)

I just got one yesterday, very impressive knife. Built like a brick -----.
I'm waiting for the Spyderco Kojak.
