Manix bandwagon...

I had to break down and order a Manix myself just this morning. What really did it for me was getting the Chinook in the mail the other day. It is a great knife and I couldn't resist the urge to compare the two side by side. I have a lot of love for the Chinook but feel the Manix blade shape will be more condusive to my needs so I'm hoping that I will like it as much in the other areas like blade opening and how it fits on the pocket.

So far this month I've gone nuts with Spyderco purchases. I figured what is the harm in one more at this point.

Well I've had mine a few days now,I love it! In fact I have got rid of a few folders since it arrived,as well I know this is going to get alot of pocket time, and they seem like toys next to my Manix!!

I now have 4 large tac folders in my edc rotation.BM 710 50/50 for work.My Manix,a first gen. LCC and a custom folder. The LCC and custom rest in my wall safe.Oh the LCC will see some pocket time but the custom which costs $400 well, it will be my first and last one.

One thing I like about the Manix is the traction grooves on the blade. These are about the only ones I've seen that really lock your thumb to the blade. All the others are little more than window dressing, cut at the wrong angle and to small/smooth to really do anything.

I did swap out the clip for a stronger one, more fitting to the knife I think.

I would like to see this clip if you can manage it.

Also, I have the Chinook right now and I am real impressed with it. So, I am looking so forward to getting my hands on my Manix when it arrives later this week.

Sal, you really owe me for this months purchases.

I have probably helped your company value in the last thirty days.

So far within the months time I've bought three different Delicas, two more Enduras, a Viele 2 that I traded for my new Chinook, a Native I sold because it was too small for my hands, a Calypso Jr. I won on Ebay, a Salt, and a Catcherman from Fred at knifeoutlet, and now a Manix on the way from newgraham.com. My wife is thinking I'm losing but I can't remember having more fun in a long time than what I've had in the last month.

Its just a clip from an Emerson CQC 7. A little shorter a little wider. The clip on the knife was a little "sprung".It also seemed a tad long and narrow for such a rubust knife.

My manix came moments ago. This thing is preeettty big. My other first impression is that there is no way that a framelock, regardless of its metallic composition, is going to be stronger than this. Manix gives an impression of indestructability. Hair popping sharp out of the box of course. Fit and finish-excellent. What an awesome value

Back to the side track.....

I thought Mannix was played by Mike Conners, don't know his nationality/ethnicity. I thought Peggy was a hottie....

I must admit. I am very impressed with the Manix. It is big. I love big knives but the more I carry it the more I notice that it is there compared to the Chinook. I have said a lot of good, no great things about the Manix since it came in the mail from newgraham.com but I may have spoke in haste. The more I get to know both the Chinook and the Manix. The more I'm finding myself drifting back to the Chinook.

I'm finding that the massive blade foot print of the Manix makes the knife more noticable in the pocket. The Chinook blade shape allows it to snuggle in better for me. But it is more than that really. The Chinook just feels better to me in the hand. I put my pocket clips to tip up carry which is what I like best. The Manix clip is positioned differently than the Chinooks in the tip up carry mounting and it causes the clip to sit in such a way as to tweak my hand uncomfortably when gripping the knife hard.

I'm not finding this to be a problem with the Chinook.

Although I love the Manix, I'm finding after carrying it that it isn't quite the holy grail I thought it was. More and more I'm finding out that I prefer the Chinook overall. Both are great though. I have a funny feeling that over time I'm going to find I really like the overall performance of the Chinook better.

I got a Manix myself too. Blade is awesome and fat. I put a zip tie through the whole so I can "wave" it open. I carry it in my waistband tip up and can wave it open from my waistband. Quite a nice self-defense knife!

Only thing I really don't like about it are the screws. I already stripped them try to remove some of the blade play.

You may have to get you a thin cut off disc and put a straight head screw driver slot in the ones you stripped. You'll probably have to remove the whole pivot pin to do it though. I've done that a lot over the years with a lot of the button head screws like came on the Manix.
