Manix, better in CE? I think so.

I love the Manix line. I think the Mini-Manix should only be made with the PE but the large Manix is actually better and more useful with the CE IMHO.

This is a large all purpuse knife that suits the CE very well. It has enough blade to make the serrations handy. I actually prefer this knive in CE over PE. I know that is not normal but I think in this case, it makes the knife better.

The Manix is the perfect knife to stick in a bug out bag and with the CE, if you need to cut through material and your edge is not as shrap as it should be, it will still do the job. I am thinking it make a great SHTF type knife where size is an issue.

My bug out bag is built around packing in the most preformance in the smallest lightest package. I keep it all in an E. German military surplus rucksack that I can just grab if needed. It is self contained and only has equipment that is proven and can be replaced. I have a S&W 6906 in there as well. It is 100% reliable. It holds 15+1 with the 5906 mags and 12+1 with the 6906 mags. It is also inexpensive and if for some reason, I had to ditch my bug out bag, I would not cry over losing the gun. I think I paid about $300 for the 6906 and $100 for the Manix so that beats losing $1000+ if I were to carry more expensive stuff.

Kevin I am glad you raised this topic. I can't for the life of me understand why so many people are pre-disposed to hate CE & SE blades. Now I will admit that they all have their place but I carried a Spyderco Renegade CE for over a year and it was a very cool blade all the way around. And I used the small serrations on many of occasions.

I just don't think most people give combo edges and serrated edges a fair trial. I have been carrying a C-44 big Dyad for almost 2 complete years now. I use the serrated edged blade on it just as much as I do the plain edged blade.

The Combo Edged Manix in my opinion is the "Ultimate Camp & Backpacker's knife". The small serrated area on the Manix is very handy for cutting rope and twine. I just don't understand people's hatred of combo edges.

J.D., I totaly agree. I loved my PE Manix but once I tried the CE, I was sold. It was the only thing that could make the Manix even better.

The thing about CE knives is, they are working knives. They are for when you have to really use them on everything. You may not know what you are going to have to cut with them so they have to be ready for anything. They are not specialized blades for the most part, they are do it all blades. Also, if the blade is not long enough, the CE can ruin a blade. I have seen blades that were too short to have CE on them and the result was the SE parts was not large enough to saw and rip like it is meant to and the PE parts was not long enough to slice and cut like it was meant to.

To be effective, a CE has to be a minimum of 3" but 3 1/2"+ is better. There should be enough SE to get a sawing action going. It doesn't take much, maybe 1 to 1 1/2" is all you really need. The PE part is more important, it has to be at least 2" to be effective in my book. 2 1/2" PE and 1" of SE seems to work well for most tasks.

I think most people who don't like CE or SE don't use there knives in a way where the SE part is a help to them. Maybe they don't really use it much at all? I know a lot of people carry knives for SD. A SD knife is not going to see much cutting so it doesn't have to be a great working knife.

I will only carry a CE knife at work now. I have got so used to having both styles of edges that a PE sometimes is not good enough and a SE is a little limited. That Dyad sounds like a great idea. I wonder if Spyderco will ever up date the design like they have been doing lately with other models. I would like to try one out I think.

I love PE and SE knives but for some reason I just can't enjoy having a CE. Just my personal opinion, take it for what it is worth, probably not much though.

Kevin you did hit on a piece of criteria dealing with Combo edged blades that I totally agree with. You stated that in order for a combo edged blade to be at it's most effective in tool value that the blade should be at least 3 inches long. I would even go as far as saying that it should be at least 3 & 1/2 inches to 4 inches long which is one reason the CE Manix is such a great blade.

I also had a combo edged Military model once that was truly was a great work knife. It also had the ideal blade length ratio to how much serrated edge it needed to be ideal.

Albeit the big Dyad is truly the best of both worlds if you can swing one. Although I have heard some complaints that some people deem the big Dyad to be too bulky. That's never been an issue for me even in the slightest. But for backpacking, camping or for the ultimate knife for occupational use I recommend the CE Manix without any reservations. It's blade length with it's percentage of serrated edge is truly ideal for a combo edge.

I know it has its fan base and I dont doubt that its a great knife but my CE Manix is one folder I really don't enjoy. Its bulky, doesnt fit my hand right and just feels clumsy to me.

Fit and finish and lock-up are perfect though.

i love CE , and SE , especially my CE mini manix . i`d love to see a SE edge mini manix , i reckon it would cut like a demon
