So I've noticed lately that when closing the blade on my manix that it feels like the blade is rubbing aganst something with a werid sound. So I took the blade apart and found some dirt clinging to the side with the washers. No idea how it could get there. So I started putting it back together and having one hell of a time doing it. Its mostly getting the damn washers back into place. Anyone ever done this before? Any tricks to getting the washers back into place?

next time I'm just gonna use a fire hose to clean it out. pain.

Take the whole thing apart, rather that just removing the blade.
Strangely, seems to make it easier to get back together.:)

i generally put the blade back into place. then, ill put the washer onto the blade tang and gently slide in into position with another knife with a very thin tip (i use my CS ti-lite). doing it this was you are able to put the washers in and use a nail or bobby pin or whatever to wiggle inside the pivot hole to align the washers.then slide the pivot screw into the tang but not past it. flip over knife and repeat with other washer now that the washer and blade are locked in.

this is a stupid/ dangerous way to do it but thats what i do.

i also saw looking around the CRK forum that he uses grease to stick the washers to the blade before sliding it in.

either way take it slow and dont get too frustrated. just makes it harder!

good luck -CB

Well I tried. I might have managed to get at least one washer in the right hole but the other one was bent which must have been why it made a friction sound when it would close or open. Action is stiff but its the best I can do without replacement washers. At least the lockup is tight. It took why too long to do it and its gonna be the last time I do it.

Didn't take any pics but someone did a few years back. I've been wondering about having just one washer and what it will do. Lock up is tight so its not gonna close on me. I don't think spyderco sells washer replacements or anything like that.

spyderco will send you replacement washers. they just sent me a set of every kind they used for the knives i had bought second hand. also in my cf harpy i put one bronze phoshor washer on the side of the blade that gets the most pressure when using the spyderhole to open. works just as well as it did with two tiny teflon washers.
