Is this common?

Not a Manix, but recently had to send my 10 min old 204P PM2 to the mothership. "Attempted" to switch position of the clip, & snap. Sheared a screw in the liner. Surprised how easily it broke.

I got one stuck in the liner now as well. My problem is I can’t send mine back due to the stupid disassembled rule.
I just need the screws

They wouldn't have this problem if they'd switched everything to the wire clip like I've been requesting for ages. :D:p

Spyderco now allows you to dismantle your knives and still keep your warranty as long as you do not do any damage, A screw snapping is an manufacturing fault, The use of red screwlock that is very strong and might have contributed to the screw failing if it was already weak, supposedly Spyderco is changing to a weaker screwlock.

As has been said, they allow disassembly now, and I don’t consider moving the clip disassembly anyways. The screws are 2-56 if you just want to replace them.

Just curious... Spyderco received my Manix on Feb. 1 - how long does it take?

Just a note that among my dozen or so Manix 2s, this has happened once. You can see the reason in your picture: Spyderco clip screws are much softer than the liners, and when you are not careful you ruin the screw tip. And when the tip is gone, the screw tightens up and can break. I now always (1) check the screw tips and (2) counter turn them until they "click" into the female thread, before forwards tightening them.

Very annoying, I know, but look at it this way: it's much easier to replace a screw than a liner. And Spyderco does send you replacement clip screws free of charge, you just need to send them a picture of your knife.

Roland.

I know I am being impatient. Spyderco has had my Manix since February 1. I haven’t heard a thing.

131C5BBF-F8AE-40D2-A691-FC6F423F7634.jpeg Spyderco called today. He said my screws weren’t original screws because mine are round and “real” screws are flat. They wanted $20 to get the broken screw out of the liner. He also said my pivot screw was wrong.

Well, the scale screws and the scales on your knife are obviously aftermarket. Your scale screws are round and look like allen in the pic, where the original ones are flat-heads, 100 degree T8 Torx screws.

Don't know about the Pivot screw, looks authentic in the pic, but would have to take it out to make sure.

The T8 clip screws in the OP look authentic, as far as I can tell from the out-of-focus picture.

Even so, that has NOTHING to do with the broken clip screw. He said he couldn’t guarantee he could fix it.
