Manix Disassembly?

Hi all, I just aquired a new 80mm Manix this week and thus far have been very impressed with it. Simply fantastic in my hands, rock solid lockup, definetly the stoutest folder in my small collection of knives. I love it.

In any case, I tend to be the curious type and have been thinking about taking my Manix apart. For one I want to be able to clean it well when it needs it, but mainly I just want to play with it:D . Is there anything I should be aware of before I take it apart? I hate to risk an expensive knife but I consider myself to be good with my hands so I am not worried about it, just wanted to be sure there is not anything I need to know before I do so. Also what size Torx drivers will I need?

Thanks!

Dan

The Manix comes apart quite simply, it's getting it back together that is a little tricky. When you reassemble it, put everything together on one side (the side with to pivot screws) and tension the backlock before you put the liner and scale on the other side back on. Make sure you also get the backspacer lined up correctly, or you will have some mismatch. It's got some heavy duty guts, someone posted a lot of pictures of it a while ago if you want to search for it. I think you need a number 8 torx.

Oh yeah, the washers are about .003" thick and 3/8 in diameter (tiny) they get lost quite easily.

One other tiny detail to keep in mind: If you do this, the Spyderco lifetime warranty is void, so don't expect any free help if something goes wrong.

I would appreciate it if you could find that thread for me. I have gone backward and forward, can't find it.

Thanks for the help everyone. I was unaware that taking the knife apart would entirely void the warranty. While I would not expect free help putting it back together I didnt think about it otherwise.

I will probably hold off on taking it apart for now!
