I think there is some corrosion deep inside my Manix and I'd like to give it a cleaning. I'm usually not one for disassembing a knife just for cleaning but I feel like I need to take care of this if it is indeed rust. Two questions:
1.)has anyone ever disassembled a Manix? If so is it fairly straight forward and easy?
2.) does this void the warranty?

Taking apart a Manix is really easy. The only tricky part is that the spring bar for the lock is a really tight fit in it's slot and is PITA to get out. Also, make sure you keep track of the phosphor bronze washers when you remove the blade, and don't lose one like I did yesterday:grumpy:

Don't know about the warrant issue.

Any dissassembly will void manufacture warranty

No, it won't. This has been hashed out and discussed. Dissassembly that causes damage will void the warranty and they will charge you to put it back together.

The Manix (I assume it's similar to the Chinook) should be pretty easy to take apart and put back together. Just make sure not to loose something like the backspring. ;)

If there is rust (I doubt it unless you've been really using it in and around water without taking time to dry it), I would suggest some fine sandpaper and use a Tuf-Cloth before you put it all back together.

not according to a recent e-mail from charlynn @ spyderco!

"Also if you take your knife apart it will void any manufacture warranty for your knife. That all being said if you reply with an address I can send you the washers.

Thank you and have a great day,

you be the judge!

I've taken apart my Delica no problem, so the Manix shouldn't be much different. If you're afraid of messing up, just keep a camera handy and snap a shot of each step of the process so you can follow it in reverse if need be. :)

Thanks for the info

I went ahead and took it apart and it was very easy to put back together. All cleaned up now.

Did you have trouble breaking the Loctite seal on the pivot screws? Those have been a bear in my experience. Even with a soldering station . . .

I didn't have any problem with the Loctite as it's had multiple washings in very hot water so I think that's helped loosen it up a bit.
