Greetings all. I've never been to this sub-forum before but I thought this would be the place to go. I've heard a lot of good things about the Manix. What is a Spyderco Manix Green Handle Sprint? And how does it differ from a regular Manix, if at all, other than handle colour?

Thank you in advance,

Doc

There is no difference, except the color. I owned an original and traded it. Recently, I got a green one and actually like it better.

I can't remember, but didn't the original black ones have only tip-down or only right handed carry or something? The foliage green ones have 4-position for sure.

nah the old ones had 4way clip. pretty sure theyre the same except color. doc, ive seen you in the wilderness section a bit and if thats what your thinking this is the knife to get! -CB

I thought the Manix was one of Spyderco's best knives. A big solid ergonomic knife with a blade shape that cut, chopped and sliced beautifully with a lock that inspired confidence. Pretty much the penultimate camping/hiking folder. Unfortunately, I never bought one because it was so huge in my pocket that it didn't make for a good EDC. I handled one through a passaround and didn't appreciate it for what it was. I thought at the time that if it didn't meet my requirements for EDC it wasn't worth buying. I was wrong. It really is a great knife and I would recommend it highly except for Sub/Urban EDC because it's such a pocket hog. I feel it deserves the 'Military' designation more due to it's all around utility and great lock and it's a shame it got discontinued. Your Visa card can take the hit and you won't regret it.

I love my Manix!! Can't say enough good about it and anticipate it will be on my side until the Busse Folder is released!!

I want to thank everybody for their input. My Visa has a severe hernia, but in view of the fact, there may never be another Manix, and that everybody has such great praise for them, I bit the bullet, put the card into overload and ordered a Green Manix yesterday.

In other words, Thanks For Nothing! (Sorry, that was my Visa speaking :()

Once again, thanks all!

Pocket hog sums it up all right. It is one large hunk of folding steel. Here it is with my Bravo1's and RC-3. (sorry about the crappy picture)

But do you like it?

I think I'm going to like it just fine. It's a little different to what I'm used to - blade shape, size, etc. I haven't bought a lockback for 15-20 years - last one was a Buck 112.

I wanted a bomb-proof, locking folder with a pocket clip, easy to open and of a suitable length to pinch hit for my fixed blades for fire boards, trap triggers etc. I'm sure it will fill the bill nicely.

Once the first frost arrives, it will be put to the test. :)
