Manix II blade play when closed?

On mine the "throw" is also short but seems adequate. The lock is very stiff on mine compared to models with an axis lock that I've handled.

The axis lock is a refined bit of mechanics and hard to trump.:(

The caged ball lock has a lot going for it, but I won't be selling off my Benchmades just yet. I will admit that I prefer the ball lock on my Dodo, being able to see the inner workings and easier to disengage for me.

The tacky plastic tab and overly resistive spring of the caged ball lock cut it short of classic status for now IMHO.

I just put on my flame proof undies, so go to town.:p

Another "tacky plastic" person. There should be a sticky on this.

I might should start a new thread but...

Has anyone noticed their M2 ball lock getting easier to use? I have mine sitting here but I'm having second thoughts of using the thing because of how hard the BB lock seems to be. I am a sucker for an AXIS lock so I usually only carry Benchmades, but I really want to try out this S90V just worried I'm not going to be happy with the lock.

Maybe I could pull it apart and put a weaker spring in?

I found on day 1 with a lot of thumb force I could use 1 finger to close my regular Manix 2, but I have very strong hands. I use 2 fingers to release even Axis locks, so the stiff spring is a plus to me as I see it as appropriate for keeping that MBC lock closed when you are whomping on it. We'll see how my S90V M2 is when I get it tomorrow.

My Manix 2's (S90V and 154CM) both can be shut with one finger, but as you said, it takes a considerable amount of force compared to the Axis lock. Note that if you don't pull straight back but follow the slight angle of the groove it gets a lot easier.

mine has broken in nicely and i can now hold the lock open and flick the blade both open and closed, ala an axis

I feel mine is breaking in too. I can easily close the blade now. Plus I'm getting used to disengaging the lock with 2 fingers.
