Manix LW, Manix S30V, PM2 negatives?

Much prefer my G10 Manix 2 to my PM2---I'm trying to like the PM2 and I'm giving it a fair chance---absolutely hate the lock as I do with all liner locks.

People will try to defend it as being different but its still just a liner lock on the other side of the knife----the PM2 will probably wind up in the sock drawer along with all the other also-rans.

Have never held a Manix XL but might be next on the purchase list. So don't have an opinion on those yet.

I briefly owned a manix but, on the model I received, I found the lock awkward to disengage as well as being way too stiff. Granted it probably would have broken in after a while, and I know a lot of people love the lock. That was just my experience.

As for the PM2, my only complaint (and most people would see this as a positive) is how crazy smooth it is. It's super fun to flick, but when I try to do a slower, controlled opening it's SO smooth that breaking the detent basically sends the blade flying out! Like I said, most people search for a crazy smooth knife. However, I think a knife can be smooth without being SO smooth. I actually like a smooth opening knife that also has some resistance. I know that seems like two contradictory things but I don't think it is.

As always, this is all just my opinion.

If I was on the Walking Dead the Manix XL would be my knife. I just couldn't EDC it, but gosh that was nice.

My 2 cents, and it's the only stuff that came immediately to mind:

Manix LW: Can't take it apart.

Manix S30V: A bit on the heavy side (YMMV).

PM2: Not the strongest locking system around.

Other than that, they're all excellent choices, and I own all three (in duplicate).

Neither Manix fit well in pockets but are otherwise very good knives. The PM2 has some occasional wiggle in the blade but otherwise one of the most stellar designs out there along with the Al Mar Hawk, BM Grip Series, CRK 21/25. It's hard to find a perfect knife but the PM2 is really in the upper echelons of modern folders.

When speaking of coatings on SS it's aesthetic. Spydie's coating is very rugged. If you like it, don't hesitate.
On M4, non stainless, it's protective.

Thank you. I like the Manix Translucent so much I'm buying another, but was also considering the coated if I'd gain something. It's funny how I start topics asking which I should buy, but usually it evolves into how many of each I should buy...

The manix models are pretty wide in the pocket, if that bothers you.

Wide in the pocket and stable in the waistband.

I have a coated Native lightweight and I agree, the coating is really tough. I got mine used and the coating still looks essentially new, and it's a serrated model I picked for whatever rougher cutting or crappier materials I might want to cut. I'm a light user, but so far the coating doesn't pick up a lot of material and it wipes down well.

Is anyone doing skeletonizing for G10 Manix knives?
