Help me decide between these two.

I really like the thicker tip of the Chinnok but now i was reading the Manix is essentillay the same knife except the blade shape. is this true? Does the Manix have a thicker tip like the Chinook?

Pix of a Manix would be great.

Thanks in advance!

get BOTH! :D

ihave both and here are my 2 cents:

Manix: thiner grind than the chinook, extremely sharp, cuts paper thin curls into wood, slices excellently, thinner tip than the chinook. An EXCELLENT woods knife

Chinook: thicker tip, quite a harsh bevel, not so sharp (i;m still trying to get mine sharp enough to cut fuzzsticks). More of a defensive blade than a woods blade. Not one i would personally carry into the woods/hiking etc. More of a city knife.

everyone elses opinion might differ from this, but this is my opinion.

I'm more comfortable with the Chinook style handle than the Manix. Fat index finger doesn't like that tight a choil.

I like the Chinook out of those two my self, its a great knife

I prefer the handle or the Chinook. And yes the Manix is thinner in the blade. If your used to a bowie style clip point knife, then the Chinook is the way to go IMHO. Either way you can't go wrong for the style of knife.

Is the Chinnok a better self defense knife than the Civilian?

I was kinda looking at the Civilian as well. I want a self defense knife as i have plenty of user type knifes (spydie Military, Endura, ect ect)already.

The Chinook is one of the ultimate user knives. It's big and strong and the belly is appropriate in the field or the kitchen. But it was designed and has been upgraded by a master of the martial arts, so it is also an excellent self-defense knife. Except.

Knives are not inherently excellent for self-defense. It's one of those things where you really, really have to know what you're doing, and the Chinook was designed for a particular style of doing it.

The Civilian was designed for a different style of doing it. Neither is better than the other, just different. The Civilian is more specialized, the tip is MUCH more delicate, and there are fewer alternate uses for it, so I prefer the Chinook.

ok i say get both....the mannix is disconned anyway so might as well snap one up. as for defensive tool....not so much....i have been in MULTIPLE fights with BG's (its kinda what I do for a living) and i have found that deploying a blade is really difficult to down right impossible with you and the BG wrapped up on the ground. Carry a gun or use a stick like a Baton or a kubaton...go check out Mercop's post in prac/tac forum here, dude is a walking library of useful information.

and in my humble mind....if i have to draw a knife to win the fight...i should have called back up two days prior..;)

I have both. Got the Chinook first and loved it. Then held the Manix and found it fits my hand better then the Chinook. I like both but my grip locks in rock solid with the Manix. So far nothing fits my hand better than a Manix and I have my fair share of folding tools.

As an FYI, the mini-Manix has a totally different feel compared to the Chinook and Manix as it tapers more near the rear pinky area of the hand.

For me relative to these two, blade consideration takes a back seat to the grip.

If possible try and hold both to see if the grip helps guide your decision. They are both quality built tanks and you cannot go wrong with either.
