Hey folks,

Just thought I'd update you on my Manix that caused a bit of a stink last year in May/June. I had broken it due to my own stupidity (batoning on the blade through 2" branch) and had posted a pic of it.

Well, I finally ended up sending it to Spyderco, since it was doing me no good sitting around here. At first, when I heard from them, the tip was going to be reground, as they did not have any replacement blades kicking around. That was fine and dandy. I was just excited to get a usable knife again.

I got a call back later saying they had located a replacement blade and would be shipping it back. Yippie! Man, was I ever excited. After a little shipping snafu (sent to different guy), I had the Manix back in my possession, with a nice sharp, full sized, pointy blade.

The first order of business for the Manix was to trip some plastic on a recent motorbike trip.. What do I end up doing?

Yep, I jammed the knife into my thumb. The pic was taken two days later. I should have gotten stitches, but I was in the States at the time, and being Canadian, I opted against it.

In conclusion, the Manix got its retribution for me originally abusing it. I think we're even now.

PS Thanks Spyderco! Your customer service is top-notch, and I had a great time at your booth at Blade West too!

That little cut was a candidate for stitches? I have a way worse cut on my middle finger. It took about 20 hours for it to stop bleeding without my putting pressure on the wound, and it's finally fully healed after 16 days.

Here's my photo log of it :D

Anyway, good luck on the customer service, huh? I've never heard of getting a blade replaced, especially on a discontinued model.

The blood stains on your bandages sort of make a hideous face, with eyeliner and black lipstick.

Cool.

Just for the record, the intent of this thread was not to show off war wounds, but to laud Spyderco on not only being a legitimate company, but a company that actually goes out of their way to help their customers out. Good on you folks! There's a reason that half of my knife purchases are Spydies (Not that I have many of them, just that when I go out and research knives, Spyderco comes out on top.)

But.. Since the opportunity arose for another war wound photo, this is what I did yesterday, about a week after the other one.. Normally, I'm good around knives, but this little series reminds me of a time about 4 years ago, when I was just getting into knives, when I got myself twice in two weeks with Himalayan Imports khukuris, one requiring stitches.

The culprit for these was not a Spydie, but it was sharp.

Travis (Thinking about how he's an idiot.)

Hamon, you are going to have to stop cutting yourself. You are starting to become a burden on our health care system. :p;)

Did that entire piece of skin come off? I had a cut that looks just like it, except it stopped halfway before it took the whole piece off. I didn't get stitches. Instead, I put pressure on it, and it took over 20 hours for it to stop bleeding. It healed in about 15 days.

The culprit was a Delica.

This was the first day:

It was worse that that picture makes it look.

And here's the progress log for the whole thing :D (Missing lots of days, though):
