Manix vs. 710

In order for the ziptie "wave" to work, it must be a tip-up knife, just thought I'd mention that.

If you like the shape of the SRKW better than the 710, you might take a look at the Ritter Grip. Or Cabelas D-2 Grips, since they both have the Axis lock...

from this thread i've decided i want a 710 to go along with my order of a mini tsek. this might be a little OT but 710 vs the Mini Tsek? is the blade length worth the extra weight/size for SD?

Not to slam the mini-Tsek, I've got a mini-AFCK myself, but, they don't compare to the 710, it's worth it:) The only BM that can compare with the 710HS is the 806D2, with the EXCEPTION of Spyderco's Manix and Chinook II these two BM are peerless in folderdom. I've played with practically every folder out there trust me these 4 are the elite of the elite, and although my favorite is the Chinook II, followed by AFCK, followed by Manix, and then the 710, that DOESN'T mean the 710 is the worst knife of the bunch in my opinion it just means its the one of the four I like the least. Any one of these four will be HARD for any other brand to beat at any price. BUT if I had a notion that the knife would be used for SD, the Manix would be out, and although the Chinook II has a very deadly blade, with a very sharp tip and a much stronger lock, I'd def go with an axis over a lockback for SD because you can flick it open. So where I'd go 806 for SD you like 710 and that's cool I have a 710 and it's one of the greatest knives out there, I just like the 806 better and yes this is coming from a Spyderco man. Have I mentioned that I like the Chinook and AFCK??? :D

I think the manix abilities outclass those of the 710, no doubt, and as a cherry on the cake, it offers all possible carry options (TU/TD/LH/RH)...

Xavier.

As fast as the 710 is anyway, Eric of On/Scene Tactical made me a belt sheath for it that pops the blade open when I withdraw it. Unless I do it very gently, it snaps open really loudly, too :D

on the subject of combat/SD use, look at the choil on the manix vs that of the 710. i'd much rather stick something with the manix. furthermore, based on choil shape, i think the 806D2 rip's the 710's ass in terms of handle design for thrusting protection. onward with my rambling, i personally don't see the SD advantage of the chinook's blade shape vs any of the knives being discussed here.

As do the 805/806, just to be fair.

In the slightly shorter but fits me better class, I put the 730 series right up with the 710 and 805/6. Especially in S30V, which admittedly is not an option on stock models.

thanks for all the input guys, i really want to get both a mini and a 710 or 806 but i'm thinking they might be far too large to carry on campus... it's a hard decision i think i need to make myself. any input appreciated.

If you're carrying on campus get a Delica or a mini-griptillian. Less expensive, less threatening, and less money lost if it's confiscated by the campus cops. I think the extra pointiness of the Chinook and AFCK would make them better at stabbing than the 710 and Manix. And, for stabbing, the handle on the 806 blows the 710 away.
