The original, full-sized, plain blade manix is the best all-around EDC of all time. Just saying.cwd

I like Manixes. The original is still my favorite.

Wow nice collection CubistHamster.

What is the difference between Manix and Manix2. I see some of them have a back lock. Is that it?

Hi Don,

Thanks (and I've actually got a few more now, that picture is a couple of years old.:D)

The original Manix was a back-lock (actually a mid-lock if you want to be pedantic) while the Manix 2 uses a caged ball-bearing lock. The Manix 2 is also a good deal shorter, uses thinner blade stock, and is hollow-ground, rather than the full flat grind of the original, though there have been sprints/dealer exclusives of the Manix 2 that were full flat ground.

I'd love to get the mid-lock version. I have a regular Manix II now, and it's my third one. I got the first, swore I'd never get rid of it, then another member "made me an offer I couldn't refuse." Got a second one, same situation - another member offered a couple of Traditional patterns I couldn't pass up. I'm got my third Manix II, and this one stays right here. Third time's a charm.

Thanks for the info CubistHamster.
Great looking photo Recon 1s14,

Quite true. My favourite do-everything locking folder that has just about everything in the right balance, from size to materials to blade grind to ergos. Had one, sold it, but then a few months ago I was lucky enough to replace it again. This time it's a keeper.

Might be off topic but should I hold out for the Torx pivot version or go with what's in stock at my fav retailers?

Ive never owned an original manix but I ordered a manix 2 tonight in 154 with a black partial serrated blade. Well see if I like it as much as you guys like yours. I didn't realize the 2 was hollow grind, thats kind of a bummer, but oh well. Im sure it will be fine.

I knew this was going to happen: The OP tries to start a conversation about the real Manix -- the manly Manix -- and a bunch of wannabe, pipsqueak manix jr.s come running out of the woodwork, like cockroaches scurrying across a dirty kitchen floor.

There is only one true Manix. It's big. It's where the beef is. Its' full flat grind. It has a man's lock, not some pimped out plastic wart pushing a BB.

Do the right thing, Sal. Atone. Make amends. Give us a born-again real Manix with CPM-M4 steel (or M390). Maybe then I'll forgive you, but probably not.

It may be this world can only hold so much original, full-size, plain-blade Manix coolness, and thus what is, is all that will be. Sad, in a way.cwd

LOL Sorry my Manix 2's are not as manly. But they have served their purpose just fine, and the locks have not failed me. I would however like to try a Manix and I'm sure I'll be blown away by it's manliness.

Watch it, man. Don't be dissin' on the Manix II, or I'll borrow mom's car and come find you . . .

Sure, bring your mom, too.

I'd be fine with the Manix II if it hadn't stolen the real Manix's name.

You don't mess with mom - especially my mom. I still haven't learned that lesson yet. :D

Actually, I really wish Spyderco would release the lockback version again. I like the ballbearing lock, but lockbacks are my all time favorite lock.

So if we call it a Manox is that acceptable then? Sorry Im new to the brand and never got the chance to buy the version that only real men, with scraggly beards filled with bits of old nachos from weeks past, with glorious gullets filled with the beverage created by Zeus himself, Pabst Blue Ribbon, and carpet flowing from their backs like the raunchy woven fibers of the shag lining the walls of your creepy uncle's van, can own. However, if you would like to give me yours I would gladly accept! Lol

I havent got my "Manox" in yet, but if there were a re-relase of the original Manix I would definitely buy it. Im not a huge fan of the whole "axis," or whatever Spyderco calls theirs, system. I like a simple lock on the back. That alone would make me buy the nacho eating, beer drinking, back hair having version.
