I’ve never had or handled a Spyderco. Im looking to purchase a Manix 2 Lightweight (under 3oz). it looks like a nice-sized knife that is light weight.

BUT when i see the photos, they have no torx screw holes... WTH..?? They have just domes where the screw should be. How do people take the knife apart??

the non-light weight version looks like they have t-6 screws.. what is going on with the light weight version screws?

You can't take the light weight apart. I have the maxamet version. It's the first and only light weight spyderco I have ever owned. To be honest I have no problems with it see no real reason to take it apart. But I have hundreds of knives so it's not gonna see daily carry.

That sounds... bizarre. I have never handled a knife that was made not to be disassembled, but my knife knowledge/experience is limited.

After some knife usage, I routinely have strop the blades then disassembled the knives to clean the insides with alcohol and lubricate them.

i thought Manix 2 light was a perfect knife to get but it is disappointing to know that you cant take it apart. It would just be too frustrating..

since you have hundreds of knives. Do u have any that has similar specs to Manix 2 Lightweight? (Under 3oz, wide grip, about 8” or 8.5” overall length, not skinny bladed, and doesnt use liner lock or lockback)

I looked into bugout, pm 2, and para 3 but they are too different in size & weight from Manix 2 Lightweight.

Do some more research on the para 3 lightweight. It can easily be taken apart. There is even a vid of the big boss @ spyderco showing step-by-step how to disassemble the knife

A functional lw knife, but not a wonder of smoothness. The lock has been very hard to operate in my case, for a long period. Gotta build those finger muscles!

I carried and used a Manix 2 LW every day for a long time and never felt the need to take it apart. I have two and can finger flick both of them open and close with finger and thumb.

I've got several examples of the Manix 2, both LW and G10 version.

They are both excellent knives, with awesome ergos.

I find myself carrying the LW version more often and have never had the need or want to take it apart.

You don't need to take it apart. Aside from changing some scales, I haven't taken a knife apart in years. When it gets dirty I wash it, spray the inside with some clp and let it dry then put a few drops of oil and it's perfectly fine.

This one once went through the washer and dryer deep in the pocket of some cargo type pants. Came out clean as a hounds tooth. Couple drops of oil and it like new again.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know the intention of riveting of Manix 2 LW?

it doesnt seem like it would help on weight reduction. And most other Spydercos seem to use torx screws. Why is Manix 2 LW different?

I have a few of them and their pinned construction has never been an issue. Great knives, and the easiest middle finger flickers ever, if you like opening that way for the fun of it.

I believe all of their FRN models use rivets. It's worked fine for me.

Spyderco build their company on knives that can’t be disassembled. You will also never lose a screw.

You can take the blade out. That's all you would really need to do to do a deep clean. Remove the blade, wash out the scales, compressed air, reinstall blade and lube.

I had one, sold it. I just never used it and preferred the heavyweight version. It was an excellent knife though. Don't agonize over not being able to disassemble it, it's not a big deal. People have been fine with knives they can't (easily) take apart for years.

hey! Thanks! I didnt know u can take the blade out. I somehow imaginged a piece of lint or crap getting stuck inside the knife and not being able to take it out.

The newer ones you can remove the blade. Not all Manix lightweights have this, the first ones were completely riveted.
