Mantis Knives any good?

Jared emailed me back. I asked him how Mantis could be using 440V when it has been out of production for years. He stated thet they find steel and machine shops that close up and Mantis buys up a lot of steel that way. He said they got a bunch of 440V from a shop that closed. He said they bought it for next to nothing so they can keep the price of the knife down.

Jared is full of crap. Just something to keep in mind.

I agree about Mantis being untrustworthy. The so called BG42 knife is what began this. In all fairness though I have ran into shops still listing 440V/S60V as an option. Heck, up to a couple of years ago I still saw Vascowear advertised after more than 10 years out of production. Seems like a knifemaking supply place had it pretty recently listed in their online catalog. I still see Cowry Y listed though it was discontinued some years back AFAIK. Industrial knife/blade shops like Carolina Knife co. still have it listed for industrial applications so finding a batch for sale isn't out of the realm of possibility. Sending it to China for processing into knives does seem strange but what do I know?.

Even if Mantis did actually have it I'm not sure I'd trust the heat treat. Seems like I recall a Rc test on the supposed BG42 that was in the middle 50's.

i had a mantis knife sent to me for sharpening and i can tell a lot about a knife when i'm sharpening it. the heat treat was questionable as well as the steel. mantis knives are added to my list of cheap junk knives to not sharpen on the paper wheels. there are better knives out there for the same money or less i'm sure.

For anyone who believes that "individual", I have a bridge for sale in Brooklyn.

I got one of those Cyclops Mu-6 round neck knives in a contest. It’s pretty strange, but it will cut the top off a strawberry. I don't think there for adults.

(( rules violation )) You cannot sell in a discussion forum. Nice bridge, though.

Just bought a mantis midnight today. been wanting a karambit for a while and it was within a the six limitations for both my state and my university. in the first day it has developed back and forth blade play. I tried to take it apart to bend the frame lock over to fix the crappy lock up, and one of the screws broke and the threads of two of the other screw holes were done so poorly that the screws won't come all the way out. But none of this really matters any bc mantis doesn't provide a warranty on their knifes

I recommend not drinking beverages while viewing. I had to clean my keyboard. Twice.

That was... supposed to be serious? A laser guided knife?

I like how he calls the handles 3D CNC'd and rubberized, when you can tell it's just a molded handle.

They have a life time no questions asked warranty so send it in.

Skagsig, I am wondering.. it has been a month since your OP. Did you pick one up yet? and if so what are YOUR thoughts on it?

Moving beyond the oddness of a "laser guided knife", I'm wondering if the grip he's using is the way it's meant to work. That grip plus the leverage from that angled blade are gonna lead to some interesting results if someone actually swings that thing at something besides air.

Wait a minnit! Brooklyn is NOT in Long Gisland just because its on Long Gisland! (It's MY bridge! :grumpy: )
