Mantis Pit Boss

I can't tell if I like it or not. I think if it was elongated a little bit, it would look a little better. Its just too stumpy lokin' for me. But I still do like the blade design. I'm not even going to get into Mantis as a company though.

I heard the Mantis designs were done by the same guys who made the props for Battlestar Galactica.

the only way mantis can sell a knife is to make it appealing to kids under 13 that dont know any better :D

I'm pretty sure the Kershaw Needs Work knife is a good Wharncliffe IIRC.

+1 and it's only $20-something from a certain forum vendor.

Quit talking out of your ass. Either you're making that up or the source you heard that from is. The few knives featured in BG were ones you can buy in any mall store, and the majority of guns were also existing guns. If you're going to make up some BS, make it believable. Or better yet, don't make up BS at all and spew it all over these forums like you ate some bad Taco Bell and can't keep your cheeks closed.

Or was that just an incredibly lame attempt at a joke?

Either way, keep your misinformation to yourself. I have an intense disdain for Mantis like any other rational person, but let's keep fact from fiction, m'kay?

I know that Mantis is a joke to this forum but does anybody actually have experience with the knives themselves? I always try to keep an open mind to different knives and companies but the bashing of certain brands on here is a little out of hand.Unless you guys do actually have had bad experiences with them or know someone who has than by all means...

When they start off by lying about the steel used in their knives, what more do you want to do with a dishonest company?

There's "open mind" and there's "bend over".

Is it a for sure thing that it's a lie about the steel? If so, Ok. But I have seen a lot of bashing on Mantis even before this thread and it wasn't pertaining to lying about steel.

I find it sort of interesting looking but as one poster said it looks like it would cut like a brick. That's the problem and the trade-off with overly stout knives.

As far as the brand goes , I don't know enough about them to make a judgement. To each their own though , I've seen some knives by very popular
manufacturers that were ugly as hell but still sold like hotcakes........

That's what I am saying, for example I remember seeing threads and posters specifically saying that they have never handled a Coldsteel knife but were bashing them.

If you're gonna lie about the blade steel then it's already crap in my eyes. Why lie? Do you honestly have to lie about the steel to make the knife look better? Telling that kind of lie to me is just saying, "Hey, I know the knife we're making is horse manure, but maybe if I lie about the blade steel, people will look the other way."

I don't care if the guy (Jared West I think his name was) was 29 years old and has a criminal record. You make crap, lie about it, and it's still crap at the end of the day. He could be Jesus for all I care. I still wouldn't buy something where I don't know the details.

After all this forum venom I'm curious as to what metal Mantis is actually using and how it holds up in testing. I'm not curious enough to buy the knife myself, but if someone does I'd love to see the review.
