Hello, Im developing a strange fast growing interest in folding knives lol. Im planning to make my first buy! a Buck Vantage Pro, a Cold Steel Talwar 4" and Im very interested in the Mantis Snaggletooth, Im totally into the looks of this knife and some cool features like the spring loaded finger ring and the "during combat" deployment alernative opening. From what Ive been looking up in this forum it seems that Mantis products are not very popular but I would like to know if someone here has had this particular knife in hand and can share some opinion about the overall quality. It has been very hard for me to find real customer reviews on this item online other than seller related. It is 42$ now on amazon and I would like to know if its worth it. Thanks!

they're meh. I had a very good experience with the company (bought a karambit, used it, lock failed, sent it to them and mentioned in the note I actually was considering their newer model since I liked it more but since this one failed I was unsure) and they actually sent me the new model for free. I haven't heard of that kind of service before, ever. That was about 7-8 years ago though so I'm not sure if they're still like that. That said, the knives aren't really quality. Pretty cheap steels, not great tolerances. They're okay for 40 bucks, but if you actually want to use the knife for more than novelty I'd consider a different brand like spyderco. They remind me of slightly higher quality mall ninja knives.

ps. The snaggletooth is about 9 ounces, which is very heavy for an EDC knife with a 2.5 inch blade. Get yourself a used mini griptilian or spyderco delica and you'll get a lot more knife for the money.

Welcome. "Worth it" is entirely subjective. Mantis is held in low esteem here.

But!

Sounds like you got the hots for this knife bad, and you should get it. It'll make you happy.

I wouldn't pay any price for one but like marci said, if you want it get it. I have made several knife purchases that would make folks around here scratch their head.

Cannot say anything about you specific knife, but my Mantis Pit Boss is my go to knife for working on my house, cutting carpet, shingle felt, ect...I've had no issues with it, busted the pocket Clip and emailed the owner of Mantis who promptly sent me a free replacement pocket Clip..as far as fit and finish mine is excellent and the steel holds an edge for a long time, its advertised as cpm 440v I personally believe it is.

I have to chime in on the "Mantis knives are garbage" train. I've never held one that wasn't total crap. I'd recommend something else. That said, the other two knives you mentioned are pretty good, I'd start with those.

I appreciate all your comments! will decide soon and post my goodies when I get them.. thanks!

Hate to be a hater but Every mantis I have held had the same type of quality. I was left unimpressed. I honestly thing mantis went to the master cutlery guys as everything they make seems to be identical in build and quality to all those huge pivot aluminum things you see constantly at flea markets.

I briefly had one of the Evis-1 (??sp??) fixed karambits. Steel was meh, sheath was wretched but it was a neat little k-bit.

"We use our M-vx steel " from Mantis for the Snaggletooth model

Wow, I love creating a name for a steel that doesn't exist, only in Mantis land!

Just wanted to let you know guys that I took your advice and forgot about the snaggletooh. Instead I bought these 2 bad boys that I wanted to share some pics.. I know they are old but I had a budget.. And after a exhausting research it came down to this..
