Anyone know of a good map & compass class in Oregon or Washington. My googlefu is not working today and I would appreciate any guidence. I am very un-educated in this field.

Thanks

Hey Snake Doc,
What part of Washington are you in? I'm in Redmond, don't know too much about compass/map classes but there is a really good out skills school in Issaquah.

SnakeDoc,

If you make it out Sunday we can talk... I just might know a feller...!
All are welcome to our odd "Koffee-Klatch-Knife-Kult" thingy, we'll
probably meet at 1 pm (instead of our 'normal' Noon) at the EOC,
then off to Trees-N-Quiet :D ...

Cheers,

Check out REI. They hold classes and workshops one of which is map and compass. The one in my area, Hillsboro, has one on 13th but I'm sure there's a class at the Jantzen beach store you could check out. The best part is they're free.

Your welcome. If you sign up for their email they'll send you an events calender each month. Oh and coupons!:D

If anyone in Oregon or Washington is interested. One of my hunting partners teaches survival classes. He is a lead member of SAR in Yamhill County and trains all of the members on Map and Compass. If any of you guys wanted we could get a class together easily. He is a great resource for any of this knowledge.
REI is also a good route to go.

That is great, maybe we could do a little get together sometime. If any of you guys are interested in a Sunday get together, some of us gather in Stevenson, WA and get out into the trees for some relaxation. (see River-8's post) all are welcome and the more the merrier!!

Thank you all for your suggestions.

You might try checking with your local community college as they sometimes offer Orienteering as a class. You can also check with the USGS or your local Forest Service office. Hope that helps. Since I live in California, I would not be able to make the drive South to attend the class with you:)
