I always am interested in hatchets a foot or less long and that weigh about a pound. I kept seeing these Marbles #5's around. Kept waiting for Ragnar to get more in but finally got one off ebay. They are usually 25 bucks or less so I figured what the hell.

Anyway I think the head of it has a nice shape:

One bummer is that it had zero edge.

After belt sandering and stopping it with 500 grit wet dry it took on a really sharp edge.

As you can see the head taper is real similar to a GB Mini

After I reprofiled it it chopped really well and handled really well.

Unfortunately the head was loose and began coming off:confused:

Spent most of the afternoon bringing it up to shaving sharp. Don't know if I'll put a larger wedge in the handle or just epoxy it in.

10" oal 1lb even. Less than 25 bucks:thumbup:

Even with the extra work on the edge it may be worth it given the initial price and the size, weight, and handling. I like it.

here's it with a GB Wildlife 14" near 2 lbs
the Marbles
A GB mini 10" 12 oz

A vaughn.(notice the head is cockeyed on the vaughn)

I really like the vaughn, I want one.
Apparently the marbles eyes aren't tapered so a wedge won't do too much, but you can pin the handle on, or maybe do some dremel work on the eye.

HD, whats the metal in the handle for??

H.D., I suggest using both. You'll not have any trouble with it after that.
