Hello has anyone here ever used a marbles machete and a tramontina machete of the same size before? My friend is buying a machete and wants it to be cheap and i found these 2 companies but i dont know a ich one to recommend. Ive heard tramontinas, need to be sharpened near the tip but that doesnt bother me much but is it true? And laatly which one would you recommend and why.

For about $10 it is hard to go wrong with a Tramontina. Basic file skills will bring it to whatever level of sharp someone would need and if you have access to a grinder and don't go to crazy you can do it faster. For what a machete needs to be Tramontina has it down pat and without the extras so they are super easy to buy.

Yep, ive heard nothing but good things about their machetes and alot of people recommend them.

Marbles machetes are made by Imacasa(who also make Condor), which are every bit as good as Tram's. They also come sharper, and include a decent sheath.

The Marbles are more finished and come sharper than the Tramontina's which are a little rougher finished. They are both good but if the cost is the same I would go with the Marbles. On either one don't be afraid to sand the handles down and get them to where they feel good. Many times the wood is slightly oversized and they feel and handle much better when the handles fit flush to the tang. I convex the edge on all my machetes and just keep them sharp using sandpaper laid flat on a piece of wood.
