Marbles belt axe?

I haven't checked lately but at one point they were produced in China. I heard the steel was in the 50-52 range. I recall reading mixed reviews but they didn't strike me as a terrible deal at that price. [I was interested in the double-bitted Nessmuk style version.] I ended up with Gransfors axes.

I asked the same question recently. The answers I got was that the axes are made in China, on the soft side, rusty, not finished well and needing a lot of edgework.

I decided to pass for a Fiskars. Under $20 at the hardware store and you can see how sharp the edge is. Don't look that traditional, but a workhorse.

you could go for the 15" wetterlings at eknifeworks (just search for the name) - it's not as refined as the Gransfors, but the one I received was pretty nice (although the grinds were a little rough, it was super sharp)

I have one of the #5 Safety Axes. It was really dull, but sharpened up and seems to cut very well.

Only problem was the head started coming off.:thumbdn: Doing some reading apparently that is a problem with these hatchets:rolleyes:

I'm going to glue my head in but I'd say worth the $$ but not a lot more.;)

Yeah i've heard 2 or three forumites talk about marbles heads flying off!
I will still probably by one of their double bits though.
I'll glue and wedge it and maybe drill it for a crosspin so it can't fly off.
