March Challenge Discussion Thread

Ethan says that the chances of someone being caught out with only one knife, is slim. I agree.

But when I state that a challenge is a "one knife" challenge, what I am wanting to do, it force ya'll into working outside your comfort zone. SO, if you choose a BK9, then you have to stick with a BK9, you learn to work better with the knife you chose, so, if for some reason, you only had your knife (albiet a slim chance) then you know you have the experience to back up your decisions.

Using a different knife with each weapon is fine, the only person you are robbing is yourself. We create these challenges, to 1) give shit away, we like doing that 2) help you learn skills that you might never have done before, we like doing that to and 3) help you train for later challenges and real life possibilities.

What you choose to do and how you do it is up to you, I'm not gonna put on a zebra shirt and start blowing whistles at you for fouls, but if you stick to the guidelines of the challenge, I promise you will get more out of it than if you try to take the easy route. Just sayin'.

Alright, Moose. Just wondering if I could make a weapon and review the BK-17 at the same time.

I got no problem with just one knife. That's why I used the 14, it's the one I always have with me. And I have been using it for tasks well beyond it size. It uprooted a tree last saturday.

Sweet.

I love those little tough ass knives, man, they really can work outside their size range.

X2. That's why I'm stoked for the zytel handles I see it instantly becoming a top notch bushcrafting blade able to complete many of the tasks of say, a Ray Laconico or BHK comfortably.

Sounds good to me, I think I'm going to start over using just the 16, I just got it in my hands an hour ago and can already tell it's what will be on my belt in the woods, so logically that would be my only knife if it came to a one knife situation. I'm very excited to test this little guy out!!!

Like I said, ya'll do what you want, we'll judge ya'll how we see fit. I've given up on putting boundaries of any kind in most of these challenges, because I just want more people to DO SOMETHING!!! And try.

I was talking with Ethan today at lunch, there is challenge I been working on and whoa momma, is it a doozy. Like, win every BKT that is currently in production, whoa momma.

And a challenge worthy of having every BKT current production knife as a prize? Well, lets just say, we ain't gonna give'em away easy.

I think one of the benefits of using just one knife is that the user learns to adapt to the tool and the task. For instance, in the August Challenge last year, I used the 14 and the 2, but I made myself use the 2 on some of the finer stuff just so I could get a better feel for how it worked, and how well of a job it would do if it was all I had. It worked, as it should, only I had to modify how I was doing things. Of course now I got me a saber ground 16, the whole learning process starts all over again, and I am looking forward to it.

That's awesome man, I know of no other place with more generous people. Its also a great place to spend some time. This challenge is perfectly timed. Just got my 16 and I have a week off for spring break. You will absolutely see an entry from me.

I can only imagine what challenge would warrant the all current production models as a prize. Collecting enough dozier beard hair to knit wool socks then climb Everest in only said socks.

Can't wit to find out.

I love spring bread, it's very light and floral. Much better than that crusty old winter bread.
