It's been a looooooooooooong time, but I finally ran 10 miles again. My pace averaged 9-9.5min/mile. I ran a huge loop through the city, with lots of dang slow-downs for stop lights and cars. I swear, almost the entire loop felt like it was climbing long hills. It's a pretty decent loop. The first 3+miles are mostly climbing one long hill with a few dips. The next mile or so is turning north and heading into the downtown area. Then, I turn east into the Historic District for 3+ miles. The Historic district is a nice run. Lots of shade from ancient Oaks, and lots of mid-late 1800's houses. The downside is that the roads and sidewalks suck because they're at least like 80+ years old, and full of unevenness and breaks that will trip you. After that, it's heading south down a long decent back to the starting point.
I'm really excited about it. I feel really good that I ran that far. I wore my new Gregory Wassatch running pack, and it was almost perfect for running. I'm going to get some velcro cable ties to keep the loose straps from flapping all over the place. That's my only issue with the pack. It's large enough to use a hydro bladder (I just brought a water bottle with Propel in it), throw in some snacks, maybe a light jacket, extra socks, and other misc small gear, and the pack weighs a little over 1lb (IIRC).
