March of Dimes Benefit Collabaration Knife Let's get this party started!!!!!!!!

Thank you, John.

I think it goes without saying that we're all glad this project met it's goals.

On the other hand there were quite a few people who've been following this for some time and feel the spirit of the event has been corrupted.

John, I think you did well and made a good decision, given the circumstances.
The goal was to raise money.....you did. There was to be one winner.....there will be.

There is no way in hell to please every body!..... and always remember in your darkest hour...."No good deed will go unpunished":D

Thanks Paul!Well, after consulting with the two participants, it was decided that there was no need to wait until the 9th of April for a drawing. The drawing has been held, and to no surprise the winner was the purchaser of the bulk of the tickets. The winner of this year's MOD Collabaration knife is..................................Jon Klein! Lets all congratulate Jon on having a generous heart, and for adding a fine piece to his collection.Congrats Jon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who could possibly have guessed - hahaha. When I heard that one person had bought almost all the tickets, I made myself a mental bet on who that person was - and I won!

Jon is generous in every way I know. Good for you, Jon!

Best,

Bob

As a side note: Even though the possibility of winning the knife is out of play,if you would still like to make a contribution to The March of Dimes, you can do so via Layla's webpage.
The address is:www.marchforbabies.org\meandlayla and remember, every little bit helps!!
Thanks and have a nice day:D!

Jon, congrats on this new addition, and at the same time supporting such a worthy cause:thumbup::cool:

Bob, as you I made a list of "usual suspects", and although Jon was not the only one on that list (Mike T. was an other one;)) he was right at the top:D:)

Congrats to Jon And all those who helped to make such a fine knife for such a fine cause

What a fantastic effort by all, a wonderful cause and, of course, a great package. My hat is off to all who participated from the birth of the idea to it's final home. I think, all in all, the anticipation for next years MOD project will be even greater!

I want to add my congratulations to all those involved in this effort. The March of Dimes is one of the charities my wife and I wholeheartedly support.

I'm proud to have had a part in this project. Yes, it would have been nice if more people had had a chance to win this spectacular colaboration. Perhaps if more chances than the 400 were offered it would not have been so "cost effective" for one person to buy all the tickets. But while it's easy for us to find fault with the way John handled this, the fact is that he did it. He organized it all. His idea, his efforts, he pulled it all together and presented the March of Dimes with close to $6,000. My hat is off to you John and I will be happy and proud to participate again next year.

Good to see you here Chris! Thanks for your comments, and your participation with this effort!! Lessons were learned this year, and will be corrected next year! We will be wide open next year, with no limit on chances sold:thumbup::thumbup:!!

I support this decision this year. There were no rules stating otherwise and we need to commit as promised. Jon Klein suggested what he felt was a VERY honorable decision, and generous too. It really is. Thank you, Jon! John Cohea's efforts and Layla's saw an immediate fulfilling closure, and John accepted the purchase terms as were made available. I understand.

That said.... For the future:

I was ambivilent about whether or not charity auctions should have a limitation on the amount of tickets sold to an individual. It's never occurred for me to understand.

DDD brought this up in the CKCA thread, and he was against it. Now I see his point.

Another aspect not mentioned already: I will speak only for myself as a contributor, but my sentiments may be shared by other MOD members. Or not.

Part of the reason we volunteer is to support charities. The causes are worthy and it creates excitement and awareness all through the Custom Knife community. Part of the reason we were asked and accepted is because we are all very capable craftsman. This example shows me how EVERYONE gave it their very best. Nothing was rushed.

There is an inescapable aspect of promotion for each of the artisans which, whether we are driven (or even aware) of this or not, is integral to the participation. As humans we like to show our best sides.

The elation of fulfilling the needs of the charity quickly, comes at an expense: The active participants have not been extended in wishful desire to hundreds and hundreds of hopeful collectors. This event will come and go quickly and with lesser fanfare.

Would I do it again? You betcha. I'll bet all the participants would. Character is what you do when no one is watching, right? That rings true here as well. But it would be a disservice to not acknowlege all of the aspects of this benefit.

This was hard to write.

Respectfully,

Coop

It may have been hard to write, Coop, but it was well written, and it got the point across, cleanly and clearly.

I thought that your post had great value, not only for this particular charity raffle, but for any future raffles held within the community.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Well put Coop:thumbup: and believe me there are NO hard feelings for you,or anyone ,for that matter, expressing their thoughts or opinions. You made very valid points, and I take them all to heart and can assure you and everyone else that may have felt slighted this year that next year all of this will be taken into account with preventitve measures in place!

Well said, Coop! My sentiments are echoed in your "epistle".
I am ready to participate whenever called upon.

Paul
