Marine Corp Birthday thread closed!!!!!!

IMO if every "off topic" post were closed on the RAT forum we would have a boring place. If all that we had on this forum were posted about metallurgy, heat treating and grind angles this wouldn't be such an enjoyable place to visit everyday.

I am not a Marine but I do have a jarhead brother and I will be giving him a call later this afternoon to wish him a Happy Jarhead Birthday! It is only one day a year and I am sure that there are a lot of RAT knives being carried today by Marines in combat zones.

I do seem to remember a couple other happy birthday threads in the last month or so that did not get closed by a moderator. In fact possibly one of those was for a moderator's birthday but I am not sure.

Lighten up everyone and to our friends in the Corp I say Happy Birthday, Semper Fi and THANK YOU!

It is nothing against the armed forces... we are trying to keep down off topic threads b/c they turn into this ... prime example....another thread to why?
it is simple no other forum goes into great detail to explain why it was closed ... there is a proper place for this...just not here. we are trying to slow down the off topic threads ,did not say we stop all of it.
I slightly remember the b-day thread,it goes way back before we started cracking down somewhat...
SB I think you just made it brother....LOL I forsee a closing of this one as well. :D
 
might I suggest a death chat thread or something similar to where all OT discussions can be held and it won't clutter up the forum

I'm a relatively noob here, so I may be speaking out of my azz again...

...but, with all due respect, I believe that the RAT forum intent as to what is on topic is way broader than the RAT tools themselves.

the off topic threads are where the magic happens, even if they do get a little out of hand at times.
 
Ok,

I closed the thread simply because it was off topic and there is a special place on BFs for such topics. RAT Cutlery has probably donated more to individual Marines than any other knife company out there so it was only about the subject being off topic, and had no other motive. Why are we closing so many off topic threads? Because we got a literal ton of emails from people saying they wanted us to clamp down on off topic stuff because it cluttered the true intent of this forum which is RAT Cutlery knives and survival issues. Some people got their feelings hurt by a skimpy bathing suit. Believe it or not, those same people that begged us to stop the off topic stuff are the same folks who have emailed us asking why we closed the Marine B'day thread. Go figure. I am a VERY fair person and I don't take things personally. Rules are rules, IMO. It's the way we run RC and the way we expect everyone to run their daily lives. With that said, I'm going to open the thread back up for a day or so just so those who feel there should be special rules will be happy. But I happen to like to look at pics of a naked woman every so often so when those pop back up here I don't want to hear anyone bitch that it's off topic. You wanna bend the rules, then so be it. Don't fucking whine when the rules start getting bent. This particular thread is closed and if someone starts another off-topic thread about this, then we'll start giving infractions.
