Marion Carry Give-Away and Contest....

To be honest mate im crap at sheaths ,so the few iv made i just put one in my bag and the little one in my pocket:( maybe this thread will inspire me to get my act together with the sheaths:thumbup: ill be watching this one closely:thumbup:

Thank you. The mechanism escapes me, but I will probably figure it out after a full night's sleep. : )

What is the center knot or whatever in the figure 8 made of, or how made?

Marion

The knot is just a sliding barrel-style knot. Just lay down a shot piece of word, wrap around it back up towards the end, then pull the other end down through the tube you've created and cinch tight. Then melt and flatten the ends. It slides freely so you can adjust the position easily.

The mechanism for the retention I figured out by chance. You start by running the green cord of the pull horizontally underneath the orange cord of the retention loop. Then take each end of the green cord 'round the front and loop them under the horizontal section. Pull this tight and knot the end so you have a little length to it like a zipper pull. If you leave it at this point you can pull on the knotted "zipper pull" and it'll slide down the orange retention loop, tightening it, but if you tried pulling up then it'll pull tight around the orange cord and prevent you from undoing it. That little horizontal section you lay down at the beginning is the secret here. Loop a little piece of cord under that, then melt both ends and stick it together to make a ring. This gives you something to actually grab. Now when you pull up on the ring the "zipper" is free to slide upward.

That's all probably really confusing, but it's hard to describe in spite of being so simple. :o

You worked so hard to get this going I decided I would share my "boot knife" with you...I'm sure it would work even better with one of your sheaths.

Is that designed so that you can have both a fractured tibia and a blade through the top of your foot?

;-)

Yes, unless it's a good quality sheath and laced high enough.

After extensive testing I found that carrying the knife in the tip up position required removing the boot to unsheath the knife and was counterproductive. :D

Sorry, the outlet for the striped para-cord is proprietary....

No pics, but I've done similar by using the sheath on the side of the boot and wrapping the cord through the eyelets and around the back as you lace it up.

I could see how that could get a little tiresome.

Innovative -- but tiresome.

Okay, here's my entry. It is to adapt the knife for belt carry.

Punched holes in the leather strip to line up with the holes in the sheath:

Cut four lengths of what would ideally be black parachord:

Looped through and tied off:

On the Belt:

Not really intended to be an entry.

I routinely employ eyelet/grommet holes to use paracord to lash a sheath to a shoulder strap of one of my field bags or baldric rigs.

Could you take and post some pics of the other side as well?

Barber, I should have known that yours would include leather.

Nice, thank you very much.

Those are some great looking sheaths Marion!! Now do you make them for real knives or just Moras??:D

Seriously though, This is a very generous give away and I like that you are tasking us with a competition that all can learn from:thumbup:

I will try to contribute something soon, but there are allready some excellent entries! Great job fellas!

I just found a length of PC stashed away in a forgotten hiding place. Maybe I'll come up with something else, not as an entry but as inspiration, if it's all right with you.

Thanks Tony!

All right, if you want to leave the prize for someone else, you are a gentleman. And if you win, you might have the skills of a scholar.
