I don't know. It depends on who grinds them. Mark grinds perpendicular, I grind lengthwise.
Mark puts a big twist in at the tip. You can have a turn to keep the grind perpendicular at the edge. But you can also twist the blade coming up onto the tip. The grind itself is actually a shallow helix. This allows you to put a little meat behind the point without making the edge overly thick.
This is an advanced grinding technique to perfect (he also feathers the grind out towards the edge into a parabola, it's not a constant radius) and it is not something that can be done using a jig.
Grinding with a jig is a perfectly good way to make a perfectly serviceable knife, but it does limit you. Mark is one of the most skilled grinders I've ever met.
Sir Casinostocks, I greatly appreciate these quotes. The mystery is still out on the “Bad Idea” FK2. Perhaps I’ll need to ask one of the evil geniuses…
#NotNathan^Thank you , C . Yet, the question remains. How did the “hard and thin” variant of the FK2 get that way? Machining or hand grinding, and by whom? I posed the question to NtM and hopefully he’ll spell it out.
Thank you again, my friend. My wife tells me much the same. Who’s listening though, she don’t even like knives.#NotNathan

The "Ask Nathan a question" thread
REPOST:):) I don't presume to speak for Nathan in any way, but do know for a fact that Nathan is the only one who can finish off the "few" skinner old stock pieces that exist. And I know he is committed to finishing existing orders for knives currently in production. And I know which of these...www.bladeforums.com
Cheers
p.s. pretty sure they're machined. I'm very sure mine is. (EtA: I could be wrong, of course.. my wife tells me that every day)
My wife tells me I don't pay attention, but that I'm usually right about things.....or some crap like that.Thank you again, my friend. My wife tells me much the same. Who’s listening though, she don’t even like knives.![]()
We’ve been home with Covid all week so I thought I’d break the monotony with a smart assed remark. It went like this….My wife tells me I don't pay attention, but that I'm usually right about things.....or some crap like that.

Me: “Babe, you so poor, you can’t even pay attention!”
Her: “Who’s fuckin fault would that be, jackass ?”
I love that woman !

I need to record verbal interactions between me and the wife..... lolz (I would never need to work again )
Get well soon!
I've had the pleasure of speaking with him on the phone (once), and completely concur. Good dude and knows what he's about. And! He is a nice person to talk to. I have only conversed via email but it is clear he is a genuine and kind individual.
I had asked E^S to create a thread for praising CPK-Mark's brilliant and exquisite work under his own banner but then I had slacked off till today when I got the time to open the drawer to enjoy time with some of my CPKs. Better late than never, with my apologies to both Eric and Mark.
