Mark your blade

Hi there! I am quite new to knife making and I am trying different materials and techniques...anyway, I have not found an answer on how to best mark your blades/knifes. I want to use a small symbol rather than a name. I am looking at stamping, engraving and etching the blade but my favorite would be stamping. Does anyone have a good source for a custom stamp or and advise on how/when (before or after heat treat)? I am looking at 440C and carbon steel materials. Thanks in advance.
