Market Glut???

every time we talk of knives the prices go up...

Seriously, Dave......do you think we do harm by posting information here?

I have been going under the assumption that here is a place where we should help each other out by freely sharing info and ideas.

Maybe that's wrong thinking?

I don't want to get blamed for driving prices up.

Patton lost a lot of respect from me when i learned he cussed a solder in a hospital ward...
in doing that he may as have well used that gun to shoot his career dead..
as he was ordered by the pres to apologize..
which he did in a halfa-- way...
IMHO he believed in pushing men not leading them

What he did for the war effort in WWll in immeasurable. Yes, he was not up to speed on medical issues like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a very real condition and there is a much greater body of research about it now than there was then. Patton was ignorant in that field. I don't really have an opinion about his personality and his pushing of men. He was the product of his time and is now a part of history. Things are done a lot differently today.

harm? humm i dont think so..i feel ok do you?
blame .. more then enough for every taxpayer

but gee you did not catch it ....
it was a sorta XXXXX comment that this is a
KNIFE forum NOT a GUN forum
thou some want it to be a
knife and gun forum ...
it was intended to be ... funny?

My contribution to this discussion related to Sambar Stag, useful in knives and guns for its hardness, durability and ability to hold up to physical impact and shock, so there was some cross-referencing.

;)yes i see that...
:Dand i happen to have a pearl handled 112 and 110
and think they look quite nice.. more expensive then ivory also
- i been to the big easy less then 5 times and never seen a pearl handle gun..
jest the combat tupper ware of late..

Ok, Dave.......I plead guilty on the occasional rabbit trail......I'm bad on that, but most here like both knives and guns, so the harm is probably not too great.

I hope most of my off-topic rabbit trails are of interest to some, at least, and I'll try not to do it to excess.

I don't sell knives, I only buy them, so I guess I suffer as much as anybody if prices go up.

:)

Oh well.

"Combat Tupperware" is cute. I carry it myself.

:D

well yes i agree to some extent ...
#1 yes no harm is done... and i believe that ...
what we do here is share and educate each other...
and with data that is great! i learned a lot here on line and from others i meet here..
details are of great importance to us and i owe a great deal of what i learn to thoes
detailed enguh to care years ago!
i hope to soon share other information that is new..
tidbit > did you know that at one time if you got caught fingergrooveing a 110
at buck you could be fired for that?
#2 well i dont agree with every one.. even my friends ;)
and here i do feel that many times i read here, were we discuss that
we like this one over that one and this is worth more than that
well there is a direct correlation with it showing up on line some place and because of discusson here
a lot of buyers are willing to pay more and bid acordingly..
any one recall the 651 rise? that was so fast up then fast back down fast..
all from here.. with that one i rest my case...
but again if you dont agree well it is ok with me ..
oh and the three dot is another one..

Yes, Dave.......I suppose I have to plead guilty to discussing the Three-Dotter too much......I can see that it MIGHT influence prices a little at the time of the discussion.

Lately, though I've had some serious argument from at least one heavy-hitter who don't like the Three-Dotter, so maybe that evened it out some (I'm still considering the possibility that he just don't like me).

That may be what Buck 110 is alluding to in his post......we hear opinions both ways and where one might increase demand......another may come along and decrease it just as much.

Who knows? I just talk about what interests me and I post things that I think might interest others.

I'd be a real man and carry a 1911 if this were a perfect world and it was convenient for me. Unfortunately, EDC for me means a Glock 26 or even an S&W 36 if I'm really traveling light. Right front pocket has turned out to be the most practical way for me, and the 1911 is a little too big and heavy, as is my Smith 686.

Even in the cold of Winter, one still goes inside and some places are too hot to wear heavy clothing, so the pocket is still the best place I've found.

Keeping the Patton theme going......I just recently learned that the good general came to the same conclusion himself. His off-duty social armament was a .32 auto in the right front pocket.....and some called him a real man. I call him a smart man.

:)

Everyone here knows that the Alaskan Guide series is a Cabelas exclusive, and it's no news that the rosewood 110 is $79. from Cabelas unless they have a sale on.

So why would someone pay this for an AG 110 rosewood when they could get it from Cabelas for less?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Buck-110-Foldin...ible_Knives&hash=item2a06520cef#ht_500wt_1035

Did our thread about Alaskan Guide Bucks influence this price? Perhaps. My only guess is that this e-bay seller does ship worldwide and I've heard that Cabelas won't ship to some countries.

Our discussion about the AGs (that they are great knives at a great price) may have influenced a bidder or two here. And in a positive way, I would think. But only bidders raise prices.

Or perhaps it's a NIB first year of issue. Beats me.

Well, it was only $12 to $15 more.....right? And some people love NOS.

Some people don't regard that as much, especially if they favor the e-Bay system over others due to being familiar with it. Buyers have a lot of protection there.

Maybe that one has the Idaho stamp, I can't tell.

Anyhow.....the truth is, people often pay too much on e-Bay.

More Bay mysteries.

:)

True. It does look like the bidder was set to pay more if needed, judging from the bidding history. Someone wanting a full collection, every year of production, I can see would be willing to pay more (the box says Dec. 2004).

No, not a lot more, but interesting in any case.

There is no such thing as too much (correct) information! Less NEVER equates to more because ignorance really isn't bliss.

1. No harm is done by posting information here.
2. Prices are not being driven up by you(or others here).
3. Some off-topic discussion adds a bit of life.

Yep:thumbup::D

humm .. i am still wanting to see pictures of a zip gun here..

Easily made, simple design. You just need a barrel, like an ink pen or a stem from a percolator coffe pot or tubing; and something to act as a firing pin; you don't even need a spring....and be brave or stupid enough, to hold it and fire it.
