Oh Oh I just had an idea, try beer. It seems to work for our bike customers. They bring in beer and they get moved to the head of the line

I don't agree. There are those who still like to propagate myths to people who don't know any better, in order to try and set themselves apart.
Dam you I have had this song stuck in my head all evening:grumpy: I didn't like it then and I still don't, but it just rattles around in my head for hours on end as soon as someone mentions it.
I was a bushbum long before I was a knifemaker so I stay active on the wilderness survival and primitive living scene. Most of my business comes from the forums. Even at the knife shows, folks approach me about "wilderness survival" more than knifemaking... so I guess that's my schtick. As for the knives themselves, I lay everything out on the table and let the people judge for themselves. My process and materials are nothing new to the industry... Make no claims and let the tools do the talking, I say. It helps to enter blades in competitions and submit them for reviews. Getting onto some reputable dealer sites can go far in legitimizing you as a knifemaker. How do you do it and what do you recommend for others?
I have to say my favorite customers are a mix between your stereotypical "users" and "collectors". I definately want someone that'll put the blade to use but it's also nice to have folks appreciate ALL aspects of the piece... fit, finish, form, etc... Incidentally, those are usually the same customers who will post reviews on the forums, complete with pretty pictures. You gotta love that kind of free marketing! Also, what do you look for in a knife collector and why? Who are some of your favorite knife collectors and why?
I steer away from absolutism whenever there is room for grey area. Which is most of the time.
...and while we're talking about rocks, I think it would be good marketing to just tell your customers that your knives are made of rocks, 'cause steel starts as rocks, and then we put it in a box, and force our will upon it, and make it something that it just naturally is not. If we let the steel just be rocks though, it's not trapped inside the box yo!
Or maybe just tell them you're stoned.....

Now, lets have a toast and dance around like retards!
