Hi.

I have finally found the kukri we speak about in topic from 24th january. It is 15in long knife, 9mm thick, not so good in finish. I*ll post pics as soon as I scan it.
There are significant markings on the left side of blade:

P P BN KHUKURI

and vertical: 0119

Do you know what that means?

Kurdy

Kurdy,
A picture is really needed so I can see the type of knife. Send me something directly if you are able and are you sure it is the initial P?

The marks could indicate "Punjabi Police Battalion" or "Putao Police Bn" and the 0119 would be part of the Gurkha's service number who was issued the knife.

One BIG problem: they would never put the word 'khukuri' in any spelling on the knife.
Like I said, a picture would be a huge help

Sure would like to see those pictures.

I am far from being an expert, but as most of you know, I surf the Net quite a bit looking for interesting Khukuri deals. This is strangely reminiscent of those I have encounterd at Ebay, usually with the appelation "Genuine Gurkha Military Issue". Even the contour of the blade is the same. Please understand that I am making no claims or accusations, but the placement of the number and the name "Khukuri" on the blade make it suspect to me.

However, as I said, a set of pictures will tell much on the origins of this knife.

IT REMINDS ME OF THE "GURKHA ARMY" THAT I GOT FROM ONE OF MY GURKHA GUARDS ONBOARD. THE MARKING THOUGH IS OBVIOUSLY DIFFERENT (GURKHA ARMY AND A SYMBOL ALONG THE BLADE + A NUMBER NEAR THE BOLSTER).
I JUST WANTED TO ADD MY TWO CENTS TO THE CONFUSION.

Karda and chakma are in very bad shape. Knife also has some scratches on blade and handle (it is clear when you enlarge pics). I*ll get some better pics of blade and markings on it.

:
Kurdy I wish I could help, but I have no or little knowledge of the older khukuris.
John Powell is still your best bet in finding out IMO.
You might send him the pix links in e-mail and see if he has time to look at them, John's a pretty busy guy.

Oh, and a better pic of the blade showing the stamping would help a great deal. I couldn't make the stampings out in the ones you have posted.

Thanks Yvsa.
I*ll e-mail pics to mr. Powell. I am working on that important picture of blade and results will be in some 24-48 hrs.

Kurdy you migh want to mail only the links to the pix since that will give John the option of looking at them when he has time instead of filling his mail box.

And please let us know what ou find out. I'm interested and I imagine the other Cantina folk's are as well.
There's no telling when one of us might run into one like yours or similar and then we will know what we have the option to buy.
