Marksman Tanto has been discontinued

It's a bummer when you get a knife you've always wanted and it doesn't meet your expectations.

I've had some that upset me when I first got them, but if they were going to be users, I just went ahead and used them.
Sometimes it's hard to use a knife that's "perfect", so it's almost a relief when the knife makes it easy to put into use.

I've had others that didn't meet my expectations.... I know Buck would have fixed them, but I usually just opt to return it.

Funny as I've usually ended up rounding the grind on a tanto style blade when I resharpen it anyways.

I hope whatever you decide it works out for you.
Buck's usually don't disappoint.

Hah, yeah that's exactly why I don't mind enough to send it back. I'm not exactly precious about using a new knife, but I do tend to baby it a little more.

Even just one side being that scuffed is enough to toss it in the recycle bin IMO.

The only thing I'm not cool with here is being attacked by apologists for sharing my experience and opinions.

I'm thrilled with the knife, and extremely grateful for the help in procuring one. I'd just prefer to see Buck do better.

Edit: Also, no version sells at all any more, tanto or otherwise. The entire line is no longer.

Not exactly attacked. Thats a strong word. Just a countered opinion. Which so far is still allowed.

Found this and found some humor.

What is the opposite of apologist?
critic accuser
appellant belittler
claimant backbiter
denigrator deprecator
complainant suer

My Marksman has a similar grind line but I don't see any negative effects from it.
More pics of a tortured knife, different reason the knife was tested. You being a newer member probably did not see a thread about someone dropping his marksman and claimed the knife was ruined.
This knife was repeatedly thrown up and down the street, thrown a a large Boulder, thrown at a fence, ground back and forth under the front tire of a F250 in gravel then on concrete. Dropped, thrown, slammed, ground etc. The only thing that broke was the pocket clip after the concrete episode. Slight slack in lockup but can be adjusted back but haven't done it. Left it the way it was.

I’ve read this thread through a couple times now and I still haven’t found where anyone was attacked. I did see one example of name calling but it didn’t stick. It’s still just an opinion. I’ve also looked for critical reviews on marksman and haven’t found anything about it being discontinued because of tanto blade grind or any other reason. I have found several favorable reviews. Who knows what reason Buck had for discontinuing the marksman. Maybe it was slow sales.

Different opinions and discussion is allowed and encouraged in a civil manner.

Could of been a G&G agreement has ended. Who knows but the knife will be missed. Hopefully still offered at Buck sales or the store as parts are probably still in stock.

Fair enough, it's just a level of defensiveness and anecdotal nonsense that irritated me. My experience may not be the norm, but regardless it's true.

I watched several favorable reviews that made mention to the overall fit an finish being a little rough, but it didn't put me off getting it.

I'm fascinated to hear how someone destroyed their knife by dropping it though. I'll have to hunt that thread out.

That's a superb point, limited term contracts are very much a thing. I had not considered that.

I was just reading your thread here, thanks for that laugh. I'm even more impressed with it now. I tried and couldnt break the Buck Marksman Photo Heavy

Mine is ground a little uneven as well. I hadn't noticed until I looked closely today. Functionally, I think it is of little or no consequence.

Yeah, I'm sure it's quite common, mines just a little more uneven than yours but on it's own it's not really a problem at all, just a little unexpected from Buck.
