Marlin 60 vs Ruger 10/22

Am I the only one who prefers a bolt action .22?

I like a really really nice one.

Not enough $ in my pocket to meet my tastes, but the CZ's are nice.

I once had a go at .22 silhouette with a borrowed heavy class, that was nice

also tried a Winchester 52 .22 sporter, that was tuned for sporter silhouette
Hand made walnut stock in satain finish
super nice too

No. I have several. Walther, Mauser, CZ, Winchester, Remington, Marlin, Mossberg, Savage, Stevens, and others. .22LR turnbolt rifles from the 1930s-1950s are a passion of mine.

I have a Ruger 10/22 that my father gifted me when I was 12. I've been shooting it for 40 years, and I love that little carbine.
I haven't had many issues with the 10 round mags over the years that some have. I've found keeping them clean (wiping of the powder residue, and blowing them out) during a shoot works wonders.

Twenty almost thirtiy years ago, I had a 10-22 and one magazine.

Ammo was Russian/Czech/something
Heavy heavy wax lube and dirty powder

$10/ brick or something like that

I ran 10 bricks thorough as fast as possible in plinking / action steel type shooting.

My thumb was busted, with a few failures due to bad primers, but never from the lack of cleaning.

Reliable as can be in my experience.

Had both, like both. I really like the accessorizability (New Word!) of the 10/22, so I like it better.

Have a few 10/22s, including the full length Mannlicher stock version in stainless and laminated stock. NEAT!

What we shoot most now is the S&W M&P 15-22... funner than hell.

If I was to buy another .22LR rifle today, I'd go out and find me another old Nylon 66. Coolest .22 ever, IMHO.

Truer words have not been spoken.

My first .22 rifle. I turned mine over to my son. If I run into another for the right price, I'll pick it up. A Seneca green one would be the cats pajamas.

I have several .22LR rifles. Only one autoloader. Mossberg M151M-B. Accurate and reliable, both required to hold my interest.

Just the other day I picked up a 10/22 and sold my Model 60 to my brother in law. As others have said the Marlin is older and they're really pretty different outside of the basic layout. My model 60 was more accurate than the 10/22 with both being stock other than polished trigger mechs. The tube mag was easier to carry and you can load longs, shorts, and long rifle rounds without issue if you do some bolt work. Since I'm not squirrel hunting these days and do most of my shooting at an indoor range the reloading the tube was a pain due to the lane barriers and me being uncoordinated.

The 10/22 is doing 1/2" at 25 yards, while the model 60 usually did about 3/8". The 10/22 won't be stock for long though as I bought it to tinker on a bit.

I have never owned a Marlin M60, but I recommend them often. Nobody I have known (in person) has had significant problems with one (ie jamamatic comment). I own one 10/22 (deluxe version) that I bought in the mid-80's. It is still stock except for a scope. It shoots okay, not great, but okay. Use it for plinking pretty much exclusively. Haven't shot paper with it in a good while to check groups, but it was doing about 0.75" groups (sometimes 0.5" groups-edge to edge) at 50 yds with Federal 510's. My favorite auto loader 22 is the Weatherby Mark XXII. I own the more recent bolt action version as well. My most accurate auto loader is the TC Lynx. Most of the TC's are gone now due to a chipping problem (chamber) and they aren't made anymore. I shoot my Remington 541-S and TC Lynx the most. Runner up is a CZ 452 Varmint.

Marlin 60 reliability issues are fairly common. A quick perusal of a Google search will give you an idea of how common.

The search results should be take into account just how insanely high selling that model has been. For years it was considered the highest selling rifle of all time.
I would guess they have a slightly tighter chamber than 10/22s based on the issues I had with CCI stingers, a new extractor fixed it.

I can't speak to the post-Remington buy out Marlins, but the old JM microgroove 60 was a very accurate cheap rifle. I found them to be more accurate than a 10/22 from the same time period. My chief complaint about the 60 was the grooved receiver scope-mounting method. I couldn't ever keep the scope from moving over time. Ruger's optics mounting method is far superior.

I think newer 10/22s are more accurate for some reason. In fact, my latest 10/22 is a take-down and it out shoots my old "standard" fixed barrel 10/22 by a wide margin.

I think my uncle's Marlin 60 that I remember him buying at Service Merchandise around 1985 is more accurate than both.

Mine are both made in the 1930s. A bolt acton Mauser a real M98 miniature and a falling block FLZ . Still used , very accurate!

Ruger 10/22 all the way. I have never had any trouble with any I have had over the past 35 years. I have a a few model 60s all of them started jamming after 50 to 100 rds and had to be cleaned to function again. The Ruger functions no matter how dirty it gets. Bought one a while back just to refurbish and save its life. Shot it just to see if it would as it was the most filthy gun I have ever had in my hand. It functioned fine.
I should also say I currently own four 10/22s
